| | | They aren't elevator doors, but hinged. you just forward and they open inward, like a one way swinging door. Yes, it is dark inside. There really isn't a good spot for lights, and there is always the off chance someone could whack their head. I didn't investigate the bottom, but from the outside, it would appear that the slide would end in a room or hallway, and you would just leave via a fire exit. you don't slide outside.
WTF indeed. |

| | | That is awesome! I wouldn't have thought that building codes would allow something like that to exist. Personally I'd go down it in a heartbeat. Also lol

| | | I have seen slides like this in old fun houses, but never in a building. Each floor would have to have it's own slide.

| | | So nobody we know of has ever gone down the slide? It would be neat to scout out the ground floor and figure out where the slide ends.

As I mentioned early, from looking at the outside fire escape, and the interior layout, it would appear that you exit to a hallway at the bottom and walk a few steps to the fire door, and out the building. You do not exit the slide outside the building.
WTF indeed. |

| | | Right o. But is the exit in a visible place where employees might see you? If not, it would be possible to have one explorer waiting there keeping an eye out.

Not that I'm aware of. The building is pretty small, and there were even a couple floors empty when I was there, but this was a couple years ago. The ground floor looks generally like this:

| | | ive seen slides like this on other buildings as well. even here in MN. never rode one down though. the ones i've seen are a metal tube on the outside of the building with the spiral slide inside. is that how this one is? or is it actually inside the building?

| | | i did one of these once, but it wasn't a fire escape, it was a box chute to move packages in a distribution warehouse. i carefully slid down first to make sure there were no obstructions or things that would dismember me, then went back to the top and shot all the way down eight floors. landed on several couch cushions at the bottom. i wish i had a canvas sack and some teflon spray to go faster. too bad i didn't have a video cam. unfortunately they demolished the building years ago. very worth it if you ever get the chance.
Are you now, or have you ever been? |

| | | I have relatives in Mishawaka, but I referred to it as the "Tower Building" in SB and he didn't know what I was talking about. Maybe if I show him the pics. I really want to do this. I'll be there over christmas! I enjoy exploring South Bend. (Edit: I didn't know the address was in the database, would've been helpful to remember it) [last edit 12/9/2006 2:22 PM by jhota - edited 1 times]
