This Roundhouse was built in 1842 and began receiving regular trains by November of that year.

The roundhouse was active until 1988, in 1990 one building was lost to a fire. Following the blaze, the building was placed on the national register and a historical society of volunteers assumed ownership of the property and have since began restorations and are very close to completion.

Martinsburg, WV. I've been here a time or two when I was in school in Gettysburg PA.

Pretty cool place, do they know anything 100% about the reuse plans for this place yet?

Everyone has a dark side, mines just a little more illuminated.

As far as I know, the plans are to just restore it and give tours and educate the public about railroad history.

Very nice pictures. Love the B&O architecture, especially that signature roof style.

It all kind of went down hill from there.

The DC chapter of the National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) runs an excursion train from DC to Baltimore then over the Old Main Line to Point of Rocks and on to Martinsburg, WV. The folks restoring the roundhouse and ancillary buildings give a tour to the railfans who ride the train. It is an interesting trip. Passenger service was long ago discontinued on the Old Main Line of the B&O. Check the NRHS DC chapter web site for details. I don't believe they run the excursion every year.
I rode the train a couple of years ago. Pictures are great. Thanks.
