I love the idea, I'd be so for that again it would all depend on my working situation (I sure as hell hope to have a job by then, and of course a car) August would work especially for camping.

Lol, well it's a start. We'll probably go further. I'd like to check out Timmins and Moosonee as well, although that's purely for my own selfish reasons XD.

I think it'll be probably a week-long trip overall. Lots of stopping and going.

Whereabouts would you like it to end up?

Moosonee would be boring, the only thing there is the pinetree base, and most of it is part of the school now. I wouldn't waste my time doing a UE trip to Moosonee. Unless, it was a skidoo-UE trip, then it might be fun

There is many great locations in the Timmins area, but there's also many in the Sudbury area. I'm up for either, work permitting.

Of course, if you're talking about Northern Ontario, there's also good abandoned mines near Ramore and Kirkland Lake, a pinetree line base at Ramore, abandoned motels here and there. A Great abandoned hotel in Kapuskasing, abandoned lumber mills near Kirkland Lake and Kapuskasing, etc. Timmins isn't as abandoned as some of the other areas around here.

A Great abandoned hotel in Kapuskasing

I remember reading about that one somewhere, is it as impressive as my foggy memory recalls?

And I was already planning on a northern Ontario trip this summer, maybe I can meet up for a day or two with the group, as long as it's in August. Any ideas for Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, Marathon, etc.? I imagine there's at least a couple ghost towns in the north as well.

yep.

What about out on Manitoulin? Anything going on out there?

The hotel is great mortimer :) It's the most interesting abandonment I've been to.

The ghost towns in the north are mostly in the Sudbury area, with a few exceptions. There is a great ghost town in the Thunder Bay area.

Um, there are a couple of old ghost towns and if I remember correctly there's an entire island community that's been abandoned.... off the main island.

Awesome idea Akane. xD And I wish we could have a skidoo-UE trip, but I think there's a general lack of skidoo's among members of UER. Kirkland Lake sounds great!

Also I think the general consensus is that we go sometime in August. How about towards the end of July? There's another meet running in August I think so I'll have to check the date for that.

Me too

I have a spare sled for you too Arctan

I think mid-late August would be the best time for a northern Ontario tour. The mosquitos aren't so bad and it's not evil hot outside.

From what I've read, all the 'ghost towns' on Manitoulin are now cottages during the summer, so not really ghost towns anymore. I'm cycling around Manitoulin for a week in July, so I'll let y'all know if I find anything interesting, but from my reading I'm not expecting much in the way of ue gold.

And for my money, there's no place more beautiful than the north shore of Superior in late August or early September.

yep.

I've been on Manatoulin for one week each summer for the last 4 years and I don't remember seeing anything more then the odd random farm house.

Oh! and don't waste time with the Mindemoya cave! SUCH a rip off!

Is that the place with the freaky taxidermy fairy tale things? If so, yes, the cave was a ripoff, but the stuffed animal life-size diorama thing was definitely worth it for the weird factor.

YES! It was freaky! The 3 bears with 4 REAL dead stuffed bears... What was with that?

Sudbury sounds good to me considering I live in it

I have about 12 places explored in this area with more to follow.

Well if there are already 12 locations there, Sudbury sounds like a good place to start and then we can make our way further north.

What does everybody think of the first week of august for the trip?

First week of August sounds good. I'm trying to goto this and NEOPEX >_> Hopefully NEOPEX isn't on the first week of August.

Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you.
