I dont know much history of the building or anything, but i do know it was a sugar beet factory that closed in the late 60's. It was pretty scary during the day and we are going back tonight:noes: . This is in Toppenish Washington btw. There are 40 pics so give them time to load.

That is very cool. Next time I'm east of the mountains I'll stop by. Are you near Moses Lake? There are some cool missile silos around that area.

Looks like your ISP wants your money; all I see is "no remote linking--please upgrade your account" where each picture should be. However, if I go to...

...I can load them each in turn.

(having now had a chance to look at all the pictures...)

It always amazes me when a place is just left to rot for, in this case, nearly 40 years!! I always like to wonder: Is there some major toxic presence there that makes it more expensive to clean up and sell than to keep and neglect? I noticed that one picture featured "Danger: Asbestos" tape. That's a possibility. What about PCBs? Did you happen to come across an electrical room with big transformers in it? If so, that would be another possibility. Old electrical stuff is a personal favorite of mine!

Also: Are you sure that welded door leads into a silo? There was an awful lot of electrical conduit going over the top of that door! Strange too that they'd even bother welding the door shut. Unless it was done while the place was still in operation, you'd think that it would be sufficient (for the legal folks) just having a barbed wire fence around the whole property. Did you try to see if there was any other way into whatever was behind the welded door? (I assume so, but can't hurt to ask )

Thanks for the cool pictures!

Did a bit of satellite recon, and the below slice of Toppenish correlates very nicely to your photos :-) Still, the place seems a lot less run down from space. I'm guessing a good deal of the deterioration seen in your photos is fairly recent. That, or the shadows in the satellite photo are obscuring it.

yeah the welded door door goes to the middle of these big silo things on the other side of this building. I want to get the top but i can figure out how to get up there.

The door is right where the red dot I drew on this map is....

Bummer. I s'pose that, since they've clearly taken the time to keep people out of there, you'd have to pull some death-defying stunts to get in. Oh well, maybe in another year some other part of the structure will collapse and clear the way for you, heheh

You could look for a tunnel into the silos.

It's hard to tell between the satellite image and the ground image as to whether or not the other buildings are connected to the silos. If so, there is almost certainly a way into them from the structures, without having to bother with the do-not-enter door.

Old thread...but I'll chime in again: Shortly after my prior post (half a year ago!), I drove out to Yakima to visit an old college buddy. Always says, "Yakima's primary export is its youth." And I believe it! That place is D-E-A-D (from a social standpoint, that is) ...but I digress... While there, I made him drive me out to this site. I didn't have to tell him much about it, and he was like, "oh yeah...THAT place." Apparently, it's really well-known, which makes it all the more surprising it hasn't been demolished or locked down better.

I'd have taken a peek around had I not been with a friend rather adverse to climbing fences and stuff. Bummer
