Far as I know, public locations are ones which either have been demolished or are so obvious/inconsequential as not to need any security. Or at least that's how it's been with all the public locations I've seen.

So there I was, in this creepy old hallway...

or if the odds of some one actually getting near it are really really small. (like alot of the random entries from iraq, or my entries from rwanda)

So a public listing would be something that everyone knows about anyway, and a private listing would be one that was harder to find? Im confused, lol. Sorry this will be my first DB post.
The place I was going to DB is a house and I suppose if you drove around town long enough you would find it pretty easily. The only reason I was thinking at all about making it private is because it hasnt TOTALLY been raped of copper yet. People around here will smash thru ANYTHING to get a damn copper pipe. Im just trying not to help them out!

"Public" locations should be things where you don't really care if people know about it. For example:

- Public buildings (like city hall) in which the photos you got were on a proper tour (even if behind the scenes)
- Places that are open to the public anyway (although there are some limits, UER is not a tourist site)
- Places that are so smashed up or destroyed that there's not much left to destroy, so it doesn't matter if vandals know about it
- Places that are so far away from anywhere that anyone crazy enough to drive there has to have good intentions
- Places that are being demolished

I had the same question and that clears it up for me too! I was making all my db entries private just to be on the safe side.

Thanks that was extremely helpful! Now to get the proper address to list for the place. Dont you just love streets with 3 different damn names?

I would like to expand on what you said, in that for example, I have marked all of my locations "public" because they can be found on my web-site and others. It makes no sense to mark it as "private" on UER but have it accessible on other sites.

In a way it does make sense, because the chances of someone coming to UER to look for places to vandalize/rape/smash/burn could be far greater than someone going to "Bob's UE Site". It's added security against the lazy vandals and arsonists.

Well, I was referencing my own examples, but yours are equally as valid. For me, it makes no sense to safeguard locations on UER, because they are readily available and viewed more frequently on my site (e.g. a Lakin State image on Abandoned has 200 hits, UER it has only ~30), so it doesn't make sense from my standpoint on the examples I cited.

I do like the added security, however, in cases such as the Brickworks incident.

Since the media just fucked me over, all my locations are now and will always be L3 only. The media got the chance because my loc's were public.

I've been feeling funny since I went in that open crypt. Not sure what it is.

What about when a location goes from private to public. Are there any concerns about the photos that were taken while trespassing now being made public? (just spitballing here)

I believe it was someone wanting to hold a "tekno" rave at an abandoned brickworks.
