any good sites to find stolen cars?

me and my friend were doing a little exploring around my county today, and we came across a car that would appear to have been stolen and trashed. i could be wrong, but it's just how thigns looked. the its about a 92-96 honda civic, had the windows smashed out, the tires were gone, but the lug nuts were still there, cd player was gone, speakers... but the plates were still on the car, and the car had stuff all in it... just wondering if there was a place to check before i reported it. wouldn't want to call it in, and be wrong, then have people ask questions about why i was, where i was in the first place...

hhm whyd you want to report it anyways? it will just raise suspicion and or increase police activity. If you leave it ther, your just letting another thing get abandoned.

but u might just wana clearn up the block thats cool to

well if it's stolen, it isn't that far from the road, and theres a good chance it will be found. and well, my prints are all over it, as well as my boys prints. i'd rather turn it in, and bite the bullet for trespassing, then be a suspect for a stolen car

i agree that if you and your boy's prints are on it, to bite the bullet and call it in. although, slim to none chance of getting caught by prints alone if they arent on file in the first place...but thats between you and your criminal background.

Leo1: You cant just wander around Gary going into old buildings! Theres plenty of crackheads that will bust you in the mouth for that camera, then run a train your ladyfriends.
Me: I like Gary, I think its nice, aside from the lack of eats on a Sunday afternoon.
Leo2: Yeah, its really nice...until we find three dead strangers in an...abandoned...thing.

i would report it anyway, especially if it looks like a write off, think of the poor barstard who it belongs to.

they could be getting their money from the insurance company a lot sooner (if they were insured)

I have had a car stolen on me, i was lucky to have a 2nd car that i could drive about, most don't.

It took a week before the police found it, and it turned out it went less than 100 metres from where i parked it. unfortunately it had a smashed dash and no CD player... but hey, i got $1000 of repairs for $450...

Report it
just be honest tell the cops that you and your friend like to explore, found a dumped stolen car and that you touched it. It's no big deal.
On top of that finger prints on something left out side don't last more than a few day (this aint CSI).
So don't worry. If you really need to reman anonymous call from a pay phone.
Think of the other guy a lot of peoples insurance doesn't cover theft.

If the authorities there treat stolen property anything like they do here in KC they won't even bother to call the poor bastard that owns the car. In fact the police are so lax about property theft that they often don't respond to car theft's and take the report over the phone. A stolen truck was dumped in the woods behind my house a few years back and the cop plainly said they don't investigate stolen vehicles in kansas city unless they believe it's part of a theft ring. I also had $9k worth of atv's stolen off the trailer in my driveway, same deal, police took the report over the phone and we never heard back. That was 3 years ago. Funny too, the atv's were stolen immediately after a fresh snow and i was able to clearly identify 3 different footprints and even the tire tread of the truck they were loaded onto. Of course we told the police about all of this but they didn't care.

i would have been pissed. there would have been a lot of cussing and screaming going to the cops if they acted like they didn't give two shits when you got some evidence

Yeah, because cops will take prints on a 92-96 civic...

You did the right thing anyways.

not very long. it had been freezing for a good 3 days in a row here, and to get to the car we drove through some frozen over puddles, which that car didn't appear to have disturbed. it hasn't rained in a few weeks, and with the driver window open, there didn't seem to be any water damage to inside of the car. the car seats didn't seem to make any "squish squish" sounds or anything. i'd say it had been there a week or two. and for what it's worth, the plates on the car expired in march.
