The old hospital on Lamar (http://www.uer.ca/locations/show.asp?locid=22400) is being torn down. I went by a few hours ago 'cus a friend had told me they'd seen construction equipment there on a trip to Elmwood recently, and sure enough, demolition has started. One of the buildings on the east side is already down, and there are dozers and tons of other equipment around.

This place, although pretty easy to get into (the db calls it the town whore, and it's true), has always been pretty cool. A while back some UEers found some medical records there and the Memphis Flyer did a story on it. There was also a theatre, a big bathhouse, and a busted arcade. It looks like it's been cleaned out even more than it was before - tons of stuff on the grounds outside, not to mention a crapload of asbestos.

So, if you're in the Memphis area and you've never been, better go pretty soon. Doesn't look like it's gonna be around much longer.
