"Wired, City Life and Montreal's Commission des services electriques, 1914-1933" is on right now at the old City Hall building. It's a few dozen documentary-style photos showing Montreal city streets before and after the hydro and telephone wires were buried underground in the 1920s and 30s. Worth checking out.

Runs until February 15th and admission is free. Access is during office hours only.

Check this article from Le Devoir for more details.

In les Promenades de la Cathedrale, there's a few dozen photos on display showing the construction of the shopping mall and office tower. In the east corridor near the entrance to The Bay. Nice to see the famous "church on stilts" shots on display again.

yeah they used to be on display till last year in the corridor leading to eatons. that mall has some interesting things about it too, if you remember the food court was in a big open center court, they wanted more parking and more stores so they filled in the center court, down in the parking lot you can see the remains of the foodcourt cieling and where they filled in the hole for more stores, also the stairs up from the parking pass right next to the car ramp, you can hear them on the other side of the thin cinder block wall

Hmmm... I haven't been down in the new parking level yet. I'll have to check it out next time I'm waiting for my friend to finish her shopping.

Speaking of shopping, I was killing some time in Chapters this weekend while she was exchanging her latest "whatever", when I spotted one of Adrien Hébert's paintings while flipping through this book.

Talk about nice stuff! The paintings I mean, not the book. Although the book's not too shabby either. Disponible en Francais.
