| | | Ok, well, in it's current incarnation the rating system is pretty pointless. Rating whether a post is relevant is really a moderators job. So, here's a poll. A nice fair way to do it.

| | | At the gamespy forums, instead of post rating, they have a system, much like yours for rating threads. Those seem to work out quite well. (at least at that forum)

| | | I agree; it makes far more sense to rate a thread (except in the Other forum) than a post. But good job anyways.

| | | I voted for 5. I like being disliked and all (oxy-moron?) but some people get minus points for no-reason just because people might not like them from one past argument... so they go around giving them minuses all the time. Lets just get rid of it or at least make it so that each vote isn't worth as much to the users rating. Of course I will most likely get a 0/7 people liked this post but whatever.

| | | I guess the obvious question should be asked: What's the point? Practically speaking, some people will find some posts useful while others find them useless - it all depends on the reader. There are some posts on here that personally, I don't read nor care about, but I'm sure others find them interesting, so it's not really fair for the post to be judged "useless", because it probably /is/ useful, for someone. -Ex

'Smith, I've vote "no" on your posting to "encourage" you progress to the dark side of the forum... while going into negatives, why not doing it well! I don't really pay attention to if the posting is revelant or not, except if it it really a bullshit posting or a super-good posting. Otherwise, I don't care about rating it. | | | Even if everything else was perfect, the fact that asses like the previous poster will compete for negative score is reason to nix the system. Or cut off their fingers with a rusty spoon, but they haven't perfected the RFC for Rusty Spoons Over TCP/IP yet.

| | | Av, you should have stuck to your guns and kept the month trial period. I think your poll was unfair toward the rating system, because there is one "remove it", and 4 keep it, making the votes spread out.

| | | Actually, i think there are three "keep its," one "go back to the drawing board," and "one get rid of it and don't ever bring it back." Even if you pool the "keep its," "remove it" is still winning, with a few people voting NDP.

| | | I do beleive this rating system could possibly work as long as we dont abuse it, if we use it content wise and not based on the persons past it should work fine, but than again we will have a few people who will think that they are gods because they have low scores and they will post useless bull shit just to get a low score.

It seems like things have cooled off. Also, I've actually found myself getting angrier at others when I disagree with them since I see that my posts start getting downrated (my guess is those people are downrating them). I feel very tempted to do the same but I've managed not to so far. A majority of people have voted to remove the system, and I think the given period has passed. We can wait for move votes, but I have a feeling the outcome will remain the same.

| | | I haven't been here long, but I do notice things are a little slower. I'm a lurker in a sense. Are there rival boards attracting uer.ca people? This site seems pretty damn good to me. Especially location database. Bah well, I don't plan to go anywhere. Maybe NO rating system is better. Whats the different between green stars and yellow stars? Moderator vs. Regular member?

Ive noticed the same thing...people are afraid to post because they don't want a big X beside thier name! I knew that this was going to become a popularity contest and for the most part it seems to have become one!

| | | I think it the rating system does more harm than good. Most people here are mature enough to use it properly, but there will always be those who will rate down because they disagree with/dislike the person in question, and those who will make useless posts regardless of their own rating. And it's these people who NEED the rating system, not the vast majority of members on this board. What's the use of keeping the system when it will do very little to stop this kind of thing? And as others have said, I think it will stifle most debate and opinions because people don't want Xs. This is already being noticed now and the system is what? Just a couple days old? I could go on here, but pretty well all the "against" arguments have already been made.
So there I was, in this creepy old hallway... |

| | | I think my big problem with the voting system is that it's meaningless to me. I plan to say what I mean, and what I want to say. If people disagree they can vote against me if they want, I'll post what I think no matter how many "X"s I ever get. I think people would take my posts just as seriously whether I had 3 stars or 3 Xs. I have no problem keeping the voting system, but it seems superfluous. -The Lost Flock
