Hey everybody, I'm new to this forum. Though I'm only gonna be in Chicago for 2 more days, I have been wondering if anyone has explored the old post office building right above the 290 expressway. I wanna go inside, but I'm worried about motion detectors. Does anyone know anything about this?

I know that there are no entrances and there is an ornery guard posted outside. I also know that the building is still is use in some capacity.

Hey, rattymcfatty! I haven't seen you since the Rat Patrol forum has been down.

Anyway, there's an entry about that building in the UE Database. You should check it out.

I'm sorry, I looked back at the UE DB and that entry has vanished. Guess they removed it since I last checked.

you could easly get lost in there its so huge. so large that before the newer smaller post office was built the big one was nere 100% used some parts of the bulding have most likely have never been used. Also I have heard a story that they found some guys body in a stairway and he had been there for a few months. One of those Stairways no one ever used, but if it was easy to get in to it would be a intresting exploration.

Hello dont mind me.

I read in Crains a few weeks back that the post office may become a hotel with retail on the first few floors.

That's a great idea but what would they tear down for a parking lot?

That's what I was thinking too. I think there are a couple floors of parking area that the trucks used, but that is hardly enough.

That place is pretty much done.

Isn't there already a Hotel across the street from the old Post Office? A holiday inn?

I mean, I doubt that the myriad of visitors to Chicago wouldn't fill another hotel but... just thought I'd mention it.

I stayed there (The holiday Inn) a few years ago and the coolest thing was that there was a pool on the roof that overlooked the Post Office. It was awesome.

It's a tragedy.
It's exactly like a greek tragedy.
