| | Request for a "search location" function !! < on 1/3/2006 8:25 AM >
| | | is there anyone, like me, who would like to have a "search location" function for the moment, there's only search user and search post... It would be nice to type a key word, i.e. hospital, and get all the results of locations that are hospitals. this would be usefull for people who love certain places (hopitals, bunkers, radar installations) to view places they like to see without having to look at all the Uebd in search of their favourite places.

| | | I don't see any problem with this suggestion, I think this feature would make it easier to find specific infos about the locations.

| | | I don't know how easy it would be to do, but I've often thought of this, too. I'm mainly interested in houses but at the same time, I would probably miss out on some cool hospitals and such if I could narrow down the search so specifically. Good idea, though!

| | | Even though the search function could easily be made by increasing the amount of various location types from simple building/drains/tunnels/other into hospitals/mines/drains/outdoors/etc., I'd say that it'd be better to have a separate field for more exact location type, and then encourage people to 1) add the information into their LDB entries 2) use pre-defined types and not their own, because now, even though the four existing types define most locations, people still put "buildings", "building complex", "hospital" etc. instead of "building", and it's rather annoying. Maybe there should be a bunch of types and an option to request a new type for a new kind of location. Or something. (No, I'm not saying how it should be done)

I agree. It is so annoying when people put whatever they want in that field.

Yeah. Because marking every abandoned building as "Building" on a site with a database of abandoned buildings is a much better idea. I think everyone should have to pick a set item from a list. But this is UER, and trying to figure out which building and infrastructure types the list would include would be a nightmare. I'm pretty it'd be one of those thinks that people cry and leave the site over. I don't think it would be unreasonable however, to have mods clean entries a bit to make them more standardized. Maybe replace every "asylum", "state lunatic hospital", "mental hospital", "mental health", "hospital campus" and whatever with one "Kirkbride" or "Asylum" would be a good idea. And yes. A search feature. Who voted no?

| | | Well it breaks it down into smaller groups, then you have the rest of the entry to explain more specificly what it is.

Why can't there be more options. Like: asylum, state building, school, military/bunker, private/residential, factory, mill, storm, utility, etc.? Just about every entry I've seen, and everything on my LDB favorites list is a building. What good would a search and sort feature be if 90% of the stuff you're dealing with are buildings?

How about a thread where users could list what kind of types they'd like to have included, and then pick the ones that got most votes/suggestions, maybe combine some similar types under one and so on? [last edit 1/21/2006 4:19 PM by Tupsumato - edited 1 times]
