| | | Toronto Island - Filtration Structure < on 12/25/2005 7:11 AM >
| | | On a trip to the Islands earlier this year my companion and I walked from Wards to Hanlan's point and on our way, we passed the Island Filtration plant. In front of the fenced off area that is actively in use, sits a gorgeous structure that's empty and for the most part, unvandalized.
From what I could see through one of the windows when I pulled myself up to on the first floor, it might have been a lab or office for the old filtration plants that were in use in the past.
This was taken through one of the many shattered blocks of glass in the basement.
There isn't much to see here at all. The windows were open when we went and there was no sign of forced entry anywhere, so I suspect that the building is still maintained by the city on a regular basis. What I'm curious of is whether anyone's got an idea or maybe some history on this structure's use in the past. Thanks in advance!

| | | I don't know much about this, I'll show it to my mom who's been and worked on the islands before, she may know something, but cool find all the same. edit Mom Intel: She has no information on that structure. [last edit 12/25/2005 2:08 PM by Axle - edited 1 times]

| | | It is quite an interesting building. The way the stairs are built sort of leads me to believe that it would have been, like you said, probably offices or another such type of place where people would enter and leave often. Then again, I have no real idea of the layout around the building but you should definitely document this building.

I'd love to, but that feature is restricted to full members only. Here's hoping someone else can get in... feel free to use my images if you wish.
