|  | | | This area was once a major hub of a developing city in the early 1800's. This development was a boom town fueled by the discovery of a major gold vein. Later in the late 1800's the arrival of a major rail artery totally re-centralized the town to be adjacent to the rail line a few miles away. With the re-centralization, combined with unsatisfactory returns from the mines, this area was left to slow decay, and has largely disappeared into the forest with the exception of a few major structures.
Unknown Ruin. Residence as far as I can tell..
Different angle.
A photo I managed to find on the grounds showing a standing view. This picture is obviously much more recent.. probably the 1930's. Someone else may immediately recognize the car and know more specifically.

This is what I was looking for in the first place.. Searching for this is what led me to stumble upon the ruins:
There is an entire network of entrances to the mine entrances spread over probably a 10 acre area:
I'll have more pictures of what I find inside the mines to come. For now.. I'm not even about to breathe inside while exploring solo.

It should be relatively safe, but do be careful about loud noises underground, bumping things while crawling around, and bad air. I'm a mine junkie, and I'd love to check this one out!!! Very cool!

It's actually blocked by something.. I didn't venture inside to take a closer look.. and.. I never expected to find such a large area.. so I spent so much time checking everything out that it was very dark by the time I left. I didn't have a flashlight on me.. so I didn't have any efficient way to take a closer look.

Ahh.. interesting. I knew they had to be related to the mining process.. but.. I didn't know enough to know what specifically. Some of these were pretty deep.

Yeah.. I think that must be how it goes with archaic mining sites. This was my third attempt and first actual find. The first one I attempted to find ended up being in the middle of a forest quite a ways from any road access. All I could find was a large sinkhole in the ground.. about 15 feet in diameter.. and about 6 or 7 feet deep. There were a ton of dead leaves in the area.. so it was hard to make out what was originally there. The earth at the bottom was unusually spongy and soft.. so.. I can't tell if it was once an entrance or if its simply indicating an underground tunnel that collapsed. No clue.

Yeah.. I really wanted to go tonight.. but.. I'm somehow uncomfortable going underground when its raining much.. so.. maybe tomorrow night or after Christmas.

That car looks a little newer than 1930's. Maybe late '30s, but my guess would be early 40's.

| | | | Nice pictures, but as per the wagon, you might tone down the saturation on the wheel spokes a tad, they seem to the only place that completely burns out or whatever.
