| | | My two cents is: There's already a lot of dick-waving around here, and this would have just about everybody on the boards scrambling for a ruler. And all of a sudden "explorers" who don't know their assholes from their elbows will have their proud checkmarks next to Danvers. Anyhow, does it really matter to folks that others on the board know exactly where you've been? I don't see this list as anything useful. Besides, if you don't have a camera, you can always post a story describing your trip, or talk about it in forums.

You registered... a week ago, correct? How can you honestly make this statement when you've been here for only that long? Why don't you stay here for a few more months, and you'll see that the general sentiment of the community can change from one week or month to the next. A good example of this would be the whole Twin Turbo/Intalex/Chikote situation. It was the talk of the community for weeks after said member was removed. And as an addendum to the above, approximately how many members are you basing your statement upon? And how long have said members been here? I think you'll find that many (not all, but many) members that have been here for a while (read: over 1.5 years) are pretty 'real' - or so to speak. In other words - many 'veteran' explorers (veteran in the sense of how long they've been here) are very approachable and tend not to be too self-centered.
As for my take on the topic - I don't think there should be an added feature. There are already facilities in place that would allow people to list places they've been to (journals, signatures, mysites, et al).

Sorry, Leviathan is right. There has always been dick-waving around here. Whether it's how many locations you contributed to the LDB, how many sites you've reviewed on the LDB, how many pics you've posted, how many posts you've made, however many icons you have, ad nauseum, there's always a group of users that think the more they have, the "better" explorer they are. This is a bad idea. If you want to make a list of the places you've been, use the "My Site" feature Av created for everyone. (Addendum: And Stealthy, aren't you guilty of a little "dick-waving" yourself? "I've been here longer than you, and I know what the sentiment of the community is better than you.") I concur, with the dick waving that still goes on even after UE Photo Critiques split from UE Photography...

Of course there's dick-waving present - but wouldn't you agree that it's generally an isolated group of users? (You did say it yourself - "...a group of users that think...") Take the Photography boards for example - wouldn't you say it's a group of 5-8 users who particularly like to wave it around? I was trying to tell Leviathan that some users here longer than others are really nice, down-to-earth people. You can send them a PM or ask them in chat, 'What camera is best for me?', and they won't snap at you and say 'Well you should know better, your retard'. Many members that have been here for a while are really cool - they could care less about the quality of the photos they take, they're just in it for the fun. And, if you took my previous post to be 'dick-waving', then I must have said something wrong. I wasn't trying to insinuate 'since I've been here longer, I know the sentiment of the community better'. What I was trying to insinuate (or outright say) was that, how could a member that was here for around a week possibly make a conclusion about the community of which he is a member? Granted, the user could have been lurking / browsing for some time beforehand - and I did not take that into account. If that is the case, accept my apologies.

Stealthy, I was not trying to insinuate that all UER members are guilty of said dick-waving, or that a majority are, or that any outside of a smallish group are. Why would I have joined the community in the first place if I took it to be primarily a forum for dick-waving? In fact, I have already had some great conversations with other explorers here, and I feel that the majority of people on here are well-adjusted, friendly, and cool. Regardless of this fact, a lot of dick-waving does occur here, and that's just the way it is. I happen to feel that adding a feature to the site which seems like an obvious catalyst for further dick-waving might not be the world's best idea. I was merely expressing my opinion on the matter (Hence, the "my two cents" thing) and not implicating everyone who belongs to UER. So no worries - I have the highest regard for this community, and for the urban exploration community at large. Just because I pointed out that a certain behaviour is fairly common here (as it is on any anonymous web-board) does not take away from that regard.

| | | What could be a good idea is to add the kind of exploration that you do. I.E: I mostly do abandonments and roofing, I don't drain. We could have little icons that shows in your profile to tells others what are your preferences. You don't need a whole MySite page for this, just a few icons would be enough.

yea it makes it a little easier for people to pin things on you...however whoever said to put an option to have preferences on what you like to explore is a good idea....makes is so people of the same likes can easily find each other and mesh

| | | It sounds like a great idea but...... It has been my experience that even though I am a full member, there have been several times that I have PM'd another member to ask for a general (not the exact location) area to look for a place I would like to check out. A lot of these slugs never bother to write back! I understand them wanting to be protective of their sites but I do not TAG, I do not vandalise, and I do not steal items I find while exploring. Obviously somebody (God bless Chainsaw) saw that I had it together enough to be a full member and felt safe in recommending me. I joined this website to meet new people and share and have some new adventures. I thought that was the whole point in having meet ups. I think you have a great idea but I have run into a few people who think they are "above" the rest of us and if they won't give any information to a fellow explorer in a PM (where it's safe from disclosure), then I doubt seriously if they will cut loose with any information on a thread. But... I love the idea and hope it works! Good luck!
