Let's not forget that many location are not posted; they are either boring or too sensitive; and some don't bother. This shouldn't be a competition.
you want locations I'll add a shitload to NY, but half will be crap only I am interested in, the other half, I'd really rather not have on her.

Ever NY explorer; post a crap house you have visited; then we win.

But like I said It's not a race.

Although I gotta say I admire your competitive spirit but it really has no application here.

yo hey, not interested in no location race with youz guyz

even some of your worst locations would be better than some of the ones we got listed Im sure!

just trying to inspire my brother explorers to greatness. (some are afraid of, uhmmm grassfires? and others thinks it be too cold to explore harrgh) we've even had someone proclaiming theres nothing left to explore in DFW! just pish posh!

But youre right no competition here just good natured fun.

Texas leads the UE Nation

Well if that is the case, how come we don't have our own Southern Office Products Expo? SOPEX? I think we should. Sometime anyways

I am about to move to downtown Fort Worth, and in the course of looking for apartments, I think I found a lot of good places. Drains too. Of course, how many of these have been explored yet, I dunno.

I wouldnt use that as an economic indicator MI NY lots of places have more abandoned stuff than we do. Isnt that why all those folks moved down here back in the 70s and 80s?

Ever heard of an abandoned insane asylum in Texas? We need all our state hospitals up and running.

What I was going on was the idea that many abandonments are industries that have closed for one reason or another. A company can close a factory altogether and that puts people out of a job including the ones that have moved here from other states. Many of them moved here because of job availability and now it's gone. A company can also close a factory in order to move that work to a more economically viable area. Cheaper labor for example. In either case, some people are out of a job. Now, more jobs may be created by another company but the layoffs still happen.

As far as finding places to explore, I thought that was part of the process, finding new places to check out. Scouting locations for infiltrations.

And, on the subject of wishing someplace would close just so you could run it, I'd bust a gut to go through the Lockheed plant in Ft. Worth. That place is huge and it'd take a few days to go through it! I worked out there for 7 years and there are places out there that no one remembers. Hell, the place was built during WWII!

Never said you did, but game on anyway; I like your reasoning, and competition is healthy! Good thinking.

*points out that Toronto has 150 locations on it's own, Ontario has 694.... and let's look at some land statistics:

Ontario Area: 917,741 km²
Texas Area: 696,241 km²

That's right, Texas is only 75% as big as Ontario but you guys have 26% as many locations as we do. Suckers.

-Av

If you wanna get into numbers, take the square km per (active)explorer for each location. Dollars to donuts says we are covering a much greater area per person. = More work for us.

Don't mess with Texas.

what about places that would have been great to explore, but are long gone, like amon carter field, that massive intl. airport south of DFW airport. it was abandoned back in the 70s and people told how they would loose the cops in the vast tunnels and cilmb around in scraped planes. in '74 some guy started shootin cars on 360, but nobody really cared.

I hate to say it but don't mess with NY; there's more to NY than downstate. I been waiting for it to break off into its' own island for years. But if you want friendly competition, then I'm game. No camera, but I'll manage.

'Dukes, your ignorance of our history makes me laugh.

Also, how 'bout this for a rule...If a Texan has explored a place in NY or vice versa, that place is negated from the opposing teams record.

i.e. If I explored X location in NY, yall can't use that as a location. It gets cancelled so to say.

Not that I'm competing anyway, I hate the LDB but I assure you, if I posted half my stuff on that thing, yall would most certainly lose.

It's still fun though.

While the pilgrims did settle up close to you guys in the 17th century. DePineda, DeVaca and Coronado from Spain arrived and explored Texas as early as 1507 (more than 100 years earlier).

Jeez, I remember going out there when I was a kid. Taggin' names on it like UE and Urbexxing wasn't even thought about back then, we just went out and kicked around. There wasn't any scrapped planes out there when we went out but we did find tunnels under the terminal as well as fallout shelters still fully stocked with civil defense food and supplies. We even got up into the control tower. It was a blast and probably turned on my exploration and adventure gene. lol

My dad raced cars at Amon Carter in the early 1970's, and I explored the old buildings and planes to keep myself occupied. There is some good info here:

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

You call 30 gallon cans of carbohydrate supplements FOOD?
Well....Better than nothing, I guess. I used to keep a mental note of where to go in case the big one finally came and that hwy 183 tunnel under the runway was one of 'em. Last time I went through the terminal was in the 70's and it was still pretty cool. The b36 was gone by then but we went through all the terminal and rode the dumb waiter down to the kitchen. We didn't have a name for it either.

good question I meant to respond before I got sidetracked with all the hillbillie mud slingin

Lack of interest is the main reason.

Weve tried many many times to get the DFW, North Texas, entire Texas etc group together.

Geoduck/Abandoned X used to organize UTEX but that event kinda went bust

And NoahVale/Astrosfan held some DFW meet-ups but it turned out to be the same 5 guys showing up everytime and we already knew each other and explored anyway.

So New England has probably 5 times as many active explorers than Texas and if you subtract all the "virtual explorers" those that just write about exploring but dont actually go explore anything, (we seem to have a lot around here) its probably an even higher active explorers for NY to TX ratio.

But to answer your question with a question, why not? I think its a great idea but I doubt more than a few will show up.

We could easily host OPEX here, but I'm still not sure that's a good idea, but I'm too lazy right now to post why I have reservations.
