MOUNT STERLING - It sits like a creepy interloper alongside the gracious old homes and well-tended lawns on North Maysville Street, the main route to downtown from Interstate 64.

It's the old Mount Sterling High School. Closed for years, it has fallen prey to vandals who have broken windows, set fires and scrawled graffiti inside and out.

Neighbors and some members of city government have a saying about it: The old school might not be the first thing you see in Mount Sterling, but it's the last thing you remember.

I will on the way back, that and Winchester's abandoned school and octagon house. I'll snap some pics.
