| | | I don't think appreciating clean resolution is pretentious. Perhaps the comments are a bit misdirected since this post is clearly not a typically artistic pictorial; instead it is more documentation. Anyhow, digital zoom is obnoxious if you dislike pixelation, and if you don't use it, Aiptek images are actually fine. Personally I found Dobi's comment light-hearted. It wasn't malicious, it was just funny. Deal with it.

| | | Yeah I was really wondering if they came off of the video camera. I wasnt meant to say they suck or lack quality. It just looks like you were filming the place i've done that before. It doesnt matter just have fun at what your doing. Who cares.

I really wish there were killfiles as there are in newsgroups. Trolling and flaming comments like yours do nothing to add to the value of the group collectively. I really want to see how you "make a living" out of photography. It's next to impossible to make a decent paycheck from it. Living in a cardboard box or in your parents house?

Actually, it just takes a lot of work and talent to make a living from photography.

It's impossible to tell who is telling what sarcasm when it is text. In real life, its possible. Hasn't anybody told you the rules of usenet or forum text yet?

| | | I think most people with ANY capacity for sarcasm or tongue-in-cheek speech would recognize that sorry guys, took me awhile to respond because i was out "making a living" off of my UE photos. was not said in seriousness. The quotes around the "making a living," when paired with the obviously unapologetic statement, should have been enough to tip you off.

Yeah, my cock it does. I work for a national newspaper and the Photographers there generally don't know which side of the fucking camera is UP - and still pull in a nice living. It's like any other job - you can do it and earn money, or you can't. Anyways, here's my COOL camera:
That's right, it's a BOX OF FUCKING CORNFLAKES!!!!! And I take pictures like THIS with it:
So, clearly, my opinion matters! Chris... [last edit 11/25/2005 8:54 PM by TurboZutek - edited 1 times]
We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

This is an incredibly stupid reply. People post on forums for the sake of communicating and discussing. Rob said the photos were junk in his opinion. It is not an insult, just an opinion of artistic quality. Maybe people shouldn't be so emotionally frail.

Journalism is entirely different than art photography. When someone gets the breaking news of a bombing by snapping away 100 pictures in a minute, it really doesn't matter if the camera is up or down to news agencies. Most news based photojournalists make money of selling photos to Reuteurs or AP, who, in turn, shell the photos out to whoever buys them. Working photographers who don't work in commercial or wedding photography have much more difficulty making money than journalists. This is especially true with UE photography which is a definite niche market. Selling prints of abandonned warehouses isn't exactly a lucrative business venture. No, he didn't. He said they were junk {full stop}. There is a marked difference - one way makes you sound like a snob and the other not as much. Chris...

I should hope identifying statements of a personal opinion are not so difficult. Why must someone qualify something by making it a statement of opinion in regards to a patently subjective field. I'm pretty sure we all knew that no one took out a rate-o-meter and scanned the photos to find it's Goodness Factor. Jesus.

I don't think you understood the thrust of my post. One makes you SOUND like a snob, the other does not. If Dobi gets anything less than the love and respect he (clearly) deserves in this thread, that will be why... in my opinion. Chris...

You missed the point. Just because an opinion differs from yours doesn't make it "snobbish". I think we could all agree a snobbish opinion would be along the lines of, "Your photos suck, mine are far better". Getting negative feedback on content you offer in the public domain is fair game. What I find funny is that the people complaining about negative feedback are alomst always those who didn't take the picture. BTW, I think the pictures suck.

Photographers in my company: 28 - 42k (That's UK pounds, not puny AmeriBucks). That's a 'nice living' in my book! Sure, it's maybe not a 'nice living' to Bill Gates... But it's all subjective I guess. Chris...
