Has anyone explored EB Eddy grounds in Ottawa?

I've called to see if they give any tours, and they don't. I haven't risked sneaking in but would love to check out the area. I plan on checking out the falls and openings of tunnels by Kayak, although I will have to wait till next summer. Has anyone been there? Is anyone interested in joining me?

A few people have explored around EB Eddy. As you found out, they don't like the public exploring. There is active security on the grounds so be very careful if you do decide to sneak in. I don't know if I would be brave enough to take any boat on that section of the Ottawa river, but it sounds like fun.

The waters are very calm late august since water level is very low. It's the only time to go safely and I have seen kayakers there before. Lots of canals and tunnels. I'll take pics when I go next summer. A sunday evening would probably be the safest since there doesn't appear to be any guards that day in the security booth. Looking forward to it!

i've biked around the grounds a bit before around the old rail docks and stuff. Noone said anything. but I know the guards are all over the place. Was lucky enough to get into the old mill before they sealed it too. The whole area is a big piece of ottawa history

Hi there. I'm new to the UE forum, but not new to adventuring. Thought I'd make my first post on EB Eddy since I grew up at the end of Rochester ST. and hung out alot on Victoria Island.
The name of the street to get into Vic. island is Middle St. and is your best access to the the old mill. Just follow the road down under the portage bridge to the roundabout and you're right there. If you look to your right just before the portage, there's a little road that's blocked to cars. Jump that, follow it down and your at the bottom of the old mill restaurant. There's an amazing area down here where the water flows really fast, with a hole in the middle of the concrete, at the base of the dam, housing a whirl pool. The water in the whirl pool is so powerful, it would literally snap a branch off in your hand if you submerged it. When I was younger, people would fish down there, and there were a few legends. One was about a couple kids who were fishing and got to close to the whirl pool. The first one fell in and was instantly sucked down. The second was pulled in trying to fish him out with his rod. There have also been numerous suicides there as well. Of course...these are all urban legends.

There's a place, under the Portage bridge where you'll see piles of limestone rocks. In one area (I'll leave it to you adventurers to find) you'll find the rocks piled up into a hovel. This is actually the home to a vagrant. Actually, It's been passed on from person to person over the years. Every few years the person living in it would disappear and you'd see someone new there.

There are tons of places in Ottawa worth adventuring and I could probably name 99.99% of them. I'd love to share them and plan to post here from now on if anyone wants to hear them.

The booth street plant is effectivly blocked off now. EB Eddy is scheduled to close totally soon, its quite the place to wander around indide, I was in there on a few occasions in the past. There is one hallway wall by the office sections that has lots of pictures of the area over the years.

The log shute in Victoria Island is quite neat to walk in, but a bit tough to do is some sections because of growth. Land fill in that area used to make the parking lot for the Navy Geezer Club is debris fromm the industrial past of the area. I found a large safe, hundreds of gas bottles and other stuff while wandering down there. On the the other side you can peek into the back of working hydro plant and watch the turbines turning. The indian camp / reserve is almost interesting to look around.
As for the Old Mill, there is a way into it.

Here's a shot of the interior of that room sort of behind the dam of the power plant.
