Tosca Banquet & Conference Centre (Oshawa)

It's that ugly blue/purple (color depends on if it's a sunny day or not) building along the 401 right at the Oshawa/Whitby border. The demo crew guy I spoke to says it'll all be razed by Monday afternoon (November 14)...

One of the few times I would say "Good riddance". That building is/was quite the eyesore.

Gone for a while. Be back when I'm back.

it used to all be a club called Opium and then a club called "Jump"... since then, they used the main bulding as a banquet hall and the rest is still purple and just rotting away there..

It's now just a vacant lot. Man the demo crew was fast!

Obviously in the commercial real estate market it's worth more as a vacant lot than with an old buildings.

Originally this building was a motel called the Georgin Motor Inn. IT had a couple of fairly popular bars that many of us older Oshawa folk would visit. One was upstairs the other was in the basement. They even had Male Stripper in the downstairs bar on Thursday nights. Just before it went to Jump it was a female strip joint called Martha's for about 5 or 6 months. Then converted to Jump, Opium and now Tosca. Have fun!

It amazes me the things people write and talk about.
Lets get the fact straight!

The building is terracotta color orange and yellow. The building is not a dump, its a new structure and its been open and busy for 3 years. As far as the history, the building was the Georgian hotel for a while.....it was the spot to get married during the era. The building went through many different identities for years. Then is sat vacant for 5 years. Then the building was converted to Opium nightclub and the club had agreement with Yves Saint Laurent Perfumes to give them away when the opened and that's why the colour was purple.....the same purple that made Yves Saint Laurent Millions is the same one that some people thought was ugly! HUMMM!!!!!
Then the club switched to Jump nightclub for 1 1/2 years.

After that it was reconstructed to build the very elegant and classy www.toscabanquethall.com please check it out for yourself.

Thanks

Considering that we were not talking about your banquet hall, then I think that you should mind your own business.

The purple building that everyone in here is discussing is sitting vacant beside the new Tosca Banquet hall; it is not the "banquet hall" building that is currently being used.

I really don't understand why people just come in here and over react about things that they don't really understand? Clearly the person who wrote under the name "Tosca" should have re-read all of the threads more thoroughly first before commenting.

In reply, lets get things straight......there is no purple building vacant beside tosca......when was the last time you actually looked? as to the comments about being busy....the only reason why we googled is because a client came by and said they google us and this is what came up.....BUT they were smart enough not to listen and came by and looked with there own eyes....not the ones in the sky!.........AND BOOKED!

So please before you post actually see it first!

Tosca's facts are correct with regard to the previous names and colours of the buildings. I was confused with the original post which said it was torn down...it was renovated.

Anywho, does the Albis fam still own it?

Sooooo.... you're not into exploring, only defending the reputation of your banquet hall (which, by the way, I pass on a daily basis, and yes, you have done a nice job on the place).

Mods... this is a waste of time!

So, to summarize, the "Tosca" I initially posted about is the now-demolished purple building. It's now just a vacant lot. The yellow/golden building that Tosca operates from is not part of this discussion. I'm sure it's a very fine banquet hall. As for a Tosca employee bemoaning this thread coming up during Google searches, well, suck it up and live with it.

When in Whitby/Oshawa and looking for a banquet hall, try Tosca, call 905 404-9400 to make a booking. Tosca, the official banquet hall of UER!

I dont want to seem like I am defending this place/guy, but that purple building I am fairly certain was not destroyed. It was facelifted/painted. Go get a picture of the old Opium purple building, and compare it with Tosca.

Here are a few pics of the purple building I'm referring too (or is it blue, I'm colorblind). This was demolished last Summer and used to reside just West of where the current and active golden yellow Tosca now sits.

Okay I know where the confusion is. Opium was purple also. (It was a more dark purple too). So there were 2 purplish buildings beside each other. Whats the likelihood of this? Definitely those pics arent the old Opium though.

The pics above are the only purplish building around there. It's now gone (just a field now) and there's no other room for other buildings. That's the one. The yellow building, the active Tosca stands immediately to the east of the now-demolished purple building.
