If there was just the largest one, I'd say that it's some kind of well or underground storage tank, but since there are more of them in different sizes and shapes, I don't think that it's one.

Just a guess, but I got the impression from the mound and the various sizes of those things that maybe there is some kind of bunker under there. They also look like they had power running to them at some point. It's very wierd, but cool.

I had another thought. What if the cement doesn't go anywhere, but is actually a platform for the green thing which has power running to it. Maybe it is some type of antiquated weather sensor or seismic detector. Whatever they are they deserve further investigation that's for sure.

Bunker sounds like an interesting option since they were painted green to obviously "blend in" with the surrounding. Can't really be foundation support for a now-demolished above the ground structure as some of these things are not straight up but have some angles that would not allow them to support anything. Are those big pieces of cement on the ground near the structures, like on the left on this pic http://www.miass.r...1892962439185.jpg?

If it is a bunker, it would most probably be pre-cold war and then, I'm surprised there is no grown up, 60 years old trees directly around the structures. Since the soil directly around the structure is so clean, I'm thinking the area was cleared in the last 25 years or even more recently. Which could make it a good site for nuclear waste disposal (dig up and dump material and cover the site with soil) or other type of undesirable material. I'd be curious to go to that site with a detector of radioactive activity. In what part of Russia is this? (I don't want the exact location, just an idea). I've studied nuclear material and historially, Russia as an history of burrying stuff up on in the northern part of the country...

Or simply old ventilation shafts (now secured) of an underground, abandonned mine. Which would explain why there seems to be no entrance point and why some structures are bigger than others...Have you checked on some old mining maps?

Let us know. This find is very very fascinating!!!! Great find!

Could be cold war -era too, since they probably built a lot of bunkers during that time and later didn't have enough funds to keep them all operational, and because of that abandoned them. After all, USA has a lot of abandoned ICBM silos and other cold war-era leftovers, so why wouldn't Russia have such things too?

Well, there are open areas in natural forests, too. And some places just don't become forests after they have been abandoned. Or maybe it was abandoned when the Soviet Union was dissolved, and therefore has only been abandoned for 14 years?

OK, I'm in with my useless opinion! Pic #4 shows what appears to be copper lines inside a sheathing, very much like you see on coolant lines in the US, only without insulation around the copper. The fact that many of the supports are different sizes leads me to believe that it didn't support an aboveground structure. Arrangement is somewhat haphazard, and it doesn't seem to have the huge, monolithic qualities that most Soviet-era bunkers displayed. Therefore, I'm voting for some sort of underground liquid storage facility, like a fuel depot or the like. As for the lack of vegetation, it could be that the liquid stored underground is nasty and dangerous, and that spillage during its use killed off large bushes and trees, sort of like Agent Orange.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

Agent Orange was only dumped and not stored. For Agent Orange, they would have dug a hole, dump the containers and fill it. No vents no nothing... That's why I'm thinking nuclear material...

I think too that it's a natural gas well. Definitely not a bunker from pre-cold war. None of the great powers of that time, build such a bunkers.

Underground storage area perhaps but not a bunker, as for what purpose it would have been build to northern area of Russia, if it is not near of Murmansk or St. Petersburg.

Cold war bunkers perhaps yes.

There is all sort of weird stuff in forest if you walk in one...

Well, I can't say with 100% certainty but I'm pretty sure it's gas. I've had a lot of experience with U.S. gas wells and while it is not exactly the same I recognized the set up.

A lot of the time it can be misleading because wells will look totally different depending on their production status (test well, active to a line, active to a holding tank, capped for later use, or permanently capped). Also depending on the amount and composition of any waste material produced there can be a wide variety of holding tanks, etc.

Also, in the last photo, that is almost no doubt a log meter. If complete there would be a rotating disk about the size of an old LP where the production of the well would be recorded on a weekly basis and collected/replaced by a welltender.

Are there any suspicious little hills that covers potential entrance, can you hear any sound below, is that hill unusual, is it close to road or anything like it?

Bodly go in places that no one notice.
