| | | There is an abandoned lumber yard near there... stay out of it. Some of my guys had a bit of a disturbing discovery there, and beat a hasty retreat. I'll give you a hint... what dark, organized and shadowy thing is Guelph known for? C.

We have The Hermitage in Ancaster which isn't nearly as nice as this (but has lots of 'cult' rumours and such to it.) [last edit 11/11/2005 12:34 AM by Wiccan - edited 1 times]

Yes I know of the lumberyard nearby, right across the street actually. They've started converting it into lofts. Wiccan, when you have an entire day off, you need something to do to kill time.

I know I know!!!!! THE MOB! I lived in Guelph from Sept. '04 until August of '05... Guelph is where the Italian Mob goes to retire, and apparently is also known for Asian gangs. I noticed my share of the I-Ti kids hanging around downtown, but Guelph is mostly hippies, students and crackheads. lol. I was planning on checking out the Goldie Mill but never got around to it before I moved out of Guelph... but I think I will make a trip sometime to see it myself.

| | | yes. i am one of the 'folks' that cross described. there is nothing more tantalizing and scary than exploring an abandoned. locked up old lumber yard only to discover a well lit garage area with no signs, no guards or dogs and three matt black vehicles with sequencial licence plates. either the mob or MIB. i would put my money on the mob. after much convincing by my compatriot, who will reveal himself if he wishes, i was dragged kicking and screaming from the lumber yard. (some details have been exaggerated for your viewing pleasure) up until that point, i had always thought that the mob story was a rumour or a joke. i'm starting to see that rumours and modern myths come from somewhere. also, i know of a couple of other choise sites, that is if they are still standing. first is the big ass church in downtown guelph, the 'our lady of peace' or something... i can never remember the name because i refer to it as 'the bitch'. there is a nunnery right beside the church that is abandoned, if it is even still standing, they tore down the high school there and we never got the chance to explore it because of the high presence of cops in s.u.v.'s (thank god for camera's and cover stories) the nunnery looks like something totally worth exploring, especially with the slim chance of there being either an entrance to some wicked storm drains, catacombs or a well behind the nunnery... however, security in downtown guelph is tight at best, and damn near impossible at the worst. the church itself has an 'interesting history' to say the least. and there are rumours that the church has connections to masons, and i know for a fact that three priests and a nun are buried at the four courners of the church. A common practice of consecrating churchs apparently. also, the huge parking lot behind the nunnery is where the original church and graveyard was. whether the moved the bodies before paving is anyones question... also, from a paranormal stand point (if you believe in that stuff) the church is an interesting study in faith, as well as an interesting phenomenon where only the right side of the church, inside and out are decaying and showing water and wear... guelph is an interesting town... shatter. *your modern local urban myth-sterious myth dealer.*

Yep, it's still standing: http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=23682 And thanks for the mob info, I'll keep that in mind. I hope to scout tonight. ~Edit~ http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=23740 [last edit 11/12/2005 2:48 AM by Axle - edited 1 times]

| | | I finally noticed a large white farmhouse on the north side of Highway 7 this morning, looks pretty empty with ragged plastic in the windows. Is this one of the places being discussed? It's right across from (I think) Belgian Flowers. C. Edit: Checked it out today and took some photos. Will show them soon. [last edit 11/12/2005 11:03 PM by Crossfire - edited 1 times]

| | | CROSSFIRE!!!!!!!!!!!! Give me some credit man I thought we was pimpin that farmhouse together.I am joking actually I didn't have the balls to go near it when I was on my way home yesterday but I would LOVE to. There is another hidden gem I am checking out after work next week the one behind the propane company. Regarding Guelph, I have lived here all of my life. Usually it is the overeducated brats that come here for a couple of years that have opinions that aren't true. There are a lot of hippies here, a little bit of crack but overall it is a great city. Take that into consideration when you only lived here for a year. OK The rant is over, I live on neeve street and worked as a support worker in the hood. I know for a fact some of those dark shady characters used to be mobsters. My grandfather owned a popular place back in the 40's and they all hung out there with him and my grandma. If anyone is really interested in the history of guelph, I know it like the back of my hand.

| | | Don't worry, don't worry! I only scouted around the outside, and a little bit inside the barn. I added it to the LDB under "Kitchener", as it is closer to Kitchener than to Guelph. Perhaps I should have made it Breslau... oh well. http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=23752 C.

| | | If you ever want to know anyhting, including mob stuff please ask me. My grandparents lived here in the "Dirty 30's" and there was some pretty shady stuff going on. I know mostly neighbourhoods around me like in the ward and those big houses up near the hospital.Guelph is rich with history and both grandpa and I where historical buffs. An interesting thing, the Manor was John Sleemans grandfathers house at one time.My grandpa went there once for a party. He also remembered when the beer went bad and all the people had to dump it in the sewer drains where the Hanlon now stands. He said that the truck overturned, or it was bad or someting and Guelph smelled like beer for weeks! My grandfather owned a store on waterloo avenue for many years, there was some gambling going on in there and we knew most of the cops and the Italians, quite a mix I tell ya.
