| | | I’m new to the sport, but I wouldn’t go to any sites that where toxic, or had small amounts of radiation that would lead to sickness. I would think that this sites would have signs on them warning people for a reason, and if they weren’t smart enough to use protection or simply stay away then they get what they deserve. I’m all for UE but not at the risk of my health, I would like to have children one day, so I don’t want my picker to fall off. LOL

| | | I don't think there is anything that could keep me from exploring a good site. A live, highly contaigous bioweapon perhaps, but only if I couldn't get a biohazard suit. I'd explore Yucca Mountain if I could. Obviously the reward has to be comparable to the risk, but I think some people set their risk maximum far too low. Edit: On furter reading, I can answer the final question definitively. The one thing that I would avoid at all costs would be you, IUSSA. May your stay on the forum be a short one. | | | I use this site to do some research on possible sites: http://www.gao.gov/GAO-01-1012SP/app1.htm Heavy security is the only thing that would keep me out of a Government site! Chuck

| | | what'd i miss on this guy? i would TOTALLY avoid asbestos (you need more than a medical style mask to keep this stuff out) and TOTALLY TOTALLY TOTALLY avoid the cold war nuke stuff. i got to see that stuff from the inside out, and can EASILY say to stay far far far away from it. by nuke stuff i mean both the reactror sites and very muchly the nuke weapons factory sites. chalk river, hanford, oak ridge, savannah river, etc etc etc - just stay away!!! and yucca mountain, whilst no doubt extremely cool, could EASILY end up killing you. that's the crappy thing about radioactive crap. you get a lethal dose, and don't know it until the next day when you turn into a giant blister and croak

| | | I do occasionaly check out the EPA SuperFund and Brownfields sites. More often than not, the sites listed are not dangerous to the casual adventurer, but more to somebody who would build a house on the site, or work on the site on a daily basis. As for asbestos, I think that has been discussed enough in the forums, but it doesn't bother me. I do have a p100 rated respirator that I use. Granted it's not perfect because I still get the particles in my clothes and hair etc. But, if I avoided every place that had asbestos I wouldn't be able to explore many places at all.
