| | | Hey I just joined this group and I am in Edm. Any chance I could get updated on where the meeting is? Do I have to supply pictures of some place I have explored or what? A few of the folks here probably know me, but they would have to see me. I think i have a meeting this Thursday at 7:30, (IWW branch metting) but if it is before... ~

Oh, you! Sweet dude, I've been wanting to contact you to see if you wanted to go exploring some time, didn't have any contact info or anything.

Meetings are usually held at 8PM on thursdays. The location changes but it's usually a downtown coffee shop. Reduxzero will send out an email with the exact details closer to the actual time. Check drainsofmycity.com for his email address to tell him you're interested in the meeting, so you'll get the email from him.

| | | Small update: the nuns' residence has been sold to developers for the purpose of building condominiums. the old building will be stripped down, and a new story built on top. seems like an enterprising explorer could prolly get in during the construction.

| | | Good job in on the Infil. I have tried it a few times over the years on each of my exploring trips up there but it was always active and had someone inside.
If you ever come to Calgary then email [email protected] and you'll be made welcome, taken to locations and given free accommodation. We'll help save you the $$$ you spend on the flight over here :) |

| | | Self reliance will earn you huge points in the Alberta Community. It is only 8pm and still daylight. Get up, go out and do it right now. There is nothing stopping you and it is not a hard place to find. You be glad you did. . . by the time you finish that cookie you feel right as rain.

| | | Yeah dude, if you have trouble getting into the Nunnery, you have issues. Just walk in the open door. If that door isn't open, you climb up the rubble pile, into the open window. Simple.

| | | MEH, I didn't say *where* the entry is, just what it is. I dunno, if you can't get in, you have issues. Unless they've done something to seal it up, it's one of the easiest entries I've ever seen for a building.

I said I was looking for someone to accompany me. I live right near West Edmonton Mall, I don't have a vehicle and I am terrified of ETS - so I either walk everywhere or ride my bike. [last edit 5/3/2006 10:42 PM by Phospheratu - edited 1 times]

| | | Much scarier things lurk on the dark of a building than a transit bus. Getting over one's fear of buses would be a good place to start

No. You don't understand. I'm not scared of dark, deserted buildings. I'm not scared of supernatural phenomena. I have extreme social anxiety - and edmonton buses have always scared me. The people on them are monsters. Especially when they kick innocent passengers to death. I like desolation.
Also, I am not in this to 'earn any points'. I have always done everything throughout my life alone. I just thought it might be nice to get involved in some sort of social activity with other humans (as my psychiatrist is always telling me) - preferably something I enjoyed doing. But I just remembered why I do everything alone, so I guess I'll stick to being a loner. Thanks anyway. [last edit 5/4/2006 7:07 PM by Phospheratu - edited 1 times]

| | | I think there are a few things you may need to understand before jumping into a forum such as this. First off, we are explorers, and as we understand that there are people interested in the places we go for art or various other reasons, including many explorers themselves, we are motivated by different reasons for going where we go besides selling art prints (no matter how nice or interesting they may be). We (or at least I) am not into to giving tours of locations. There are enough people that come and go, and trash locations we hold very close to us, and we are not just going to fling open the door and welcome everyone in because of it, especially if they only have a passing interest. There is a matter of trust and earned respect that comes along, and either you meet the people and introduce yourself to them in such a way, preferably not over the internet, and gain it or you go out on your own and find places and see them on your own. We were all newbs at once, and all had to go through this type of learning curve, so please don't think I am coming down on you specifically. But I have seen many different types of people to come and go, and the ones that go are the ones that expected to have the 'keys to the city' handed to them. The ones that stay are the ones that got out and did things on their, created their own metaphorical keys and tested the boundaries of safe, and saw a whole new world open up to them.

Wow. What friendly people. I do not sell prints of my art. My art is a personal thing. Believe me, I do not trash buildings, and this is not a passing interest. I used to do this in England (30 odd years ago) - and English people in general have much more respect for old buildings than people here do. This place is rife with vandals. Don't worry - I don't need you or your petty 'community'. I will find my own way.
