The Place: Fort Howard VA Medical Center Also known as: "VAMC" Location: Fort Howard, MD Visited: Yes Current Owner: Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care System Background: Status: Of 30-40+ structures on site all are abandoned with the exception of the out-patient clinic, grounds crew building and the security building at the front gate. Some of the buildings are in good shape and some are them are falling apart. Many of the newer buildings still have lights on and the main building appears to be alarmed. Plans are in the works to create a veterans retirement community on the old campus so it may not last much longer in its current condition before building/demolition begins. Photos: An entrance to the main building. Not sure if it was the front or back.
Maybe the original hospital building on the left and the newer/larger building on the right. Not sure.
Ambulance entrance, prolly not far from the ER.
A view of the back of the main building.
Anyone need an air conditioner?
Older building attached to the main building
Not sure what this was. The inside was totally gutted, only bare framing and electrical remained.
Inside the building pictured above.
An old theatre
A view of the stage inside the old theatre
No thanks, I think I can hold it.
This place was a ghost town. Rows and rows of abandoned houses and buildings.
A close-up of one of the houses.
The sign reads: "Danger - fire will cause toxic fumes - poison storage area - all unauthorized persons keep out - keep door locked when not in use"
A small lighthouse visible from the medical center campus
As with all of my trips to date I have proof of police on location And once again we were there with permission from higher-ups and free to wonder the area. [last edit 11/7/2005 7:17 PM by SpookyDan - edited 1 times]

| | | I think the building your not sure about was the post office.
Buildings have two natural enemies- water, and bears. |

Could have been. There is one active building on the campus that has old photos and info inside... kinda like a history room. Im sure if I really wanted to know I could go in there and find out.
