| | Duplex and Orchard View Blvd, Toronto (near yonge and eg) < on 11/2/2005 5:34 AM >
| | | There is a row of townhouses at this intersection that have been vacant for years now - a sign outside says that the owners are applying for re-zoning, but I've seen nothing happen on the site in years. Anybody check it out? rm

| | | I was actually there on a tour with my urban planning class yesterday, with the urban planner for the area. The story is that a developer purchased the houses with the intent on building a 18 story building, but then the plan was declined, and the developer never went to the OMB. So they're redesigning the plan, but still have nothing final yet, so until there is something those houses should remain vacant for at least a little while. I should point out though that he mentioned that the developer is thinking of making it a parking lot in the meantime, though he said he'd try to stop that too.

| | | I'm not sure if this is relevant, but as you're probably aware, there is also a police station at Duplex and Eglinton.

| | | Toronto police have gone on a work to rule strike. They are still on duty, but only responding to emergencies with any kind of urgency. Non-emergency calls are taking hours to respond to. Not sure if this is relevant either, but if I were thinking of taking a tour of some possibly soon to be leveled houses and the cops were sitting down to have donuts, well then.
I'm on the verge of tears by the time we arrive at Espace since I'm positive we won't have a decent table, but we do, and relief washes over me in an awesome wave. Patrick Bateman |

| | | If you go there around noon, you will probably find a pack of kids from nearby S.O.L.A. having a joint.

That was mentioned too. "Residents of the neighborhood want to see something happen with this place rather than have the backyards just full of kids smoking up"

| | | Live near it myself, have scouted it a few times, but they keep adding more plywood. And with the teenage/druggie/vandal activity over the years, not sure if I even want to try it. Enough cars and neighbours and eyes to prevent much... Believe it or not, that whole area is ripe...

| | | I used to blaze there every now and then. I don't know if I would recommend taking a tour, if you can even get in, I heard that they were old crack houses so now they're all done up pretty tightly. Before I had even heard of UE I wanted to go take a look inside, but the sola kids told me that it was pretty solid.

| | | Oh, you used to go to sola? Did you know Scott, the arts guy? Closest I've been to inside those houses is that unlocked 'back shed room thing', dont actually think I would want to go inside. [last edit 11/9/2005 4:29 AM by tnarduzzi - edited 1 times]

| | | no, I didn't go to sola, but I hung out with kids who went to sola. I've only been in the courtyard area.
