has anyone ever been eploring in the Ann Arbor region. I just moved here and I don't know anyone in the area. I have a few friend in St. Paul that got me interested in UE and I would like to explore U of Michgan campus. I have heard that there is a large layout of steam tunnels as well as old buildings but i haven't found any entrances. If anyone has any info or would like to go exploring please contact me.

I wouldn't try it. Many a student has supposedly tried to access these tunnels, but from what I hear they have it under wraps--cameras, motion sensors, the whole deal. If you're a student, it's immediate expulsion. If not, they're pretty harsh on the legal proceedings. They really don't want anyone down there. Of course, it's been a while since this reply, so if you managed to find something, let a brotha know.

UM has some interesting locations. By and large the steam tunnels are difficult to access. There are some motion detectors, but they tend to be in obvious areas such as pointing toward the exits into sensitive buildings (eg the art museum) and at major junctions. It takes a lot of persistence to find an open entrance but it's not impossible. It's too bad that they're locked up so tight, though - there's probably 10 or 20 miles of tunnels. Punishments are rumored to be dire if you're caught. I don't know how much of this is propaganda and how much is serious since I've never been caught myself. However, there are lots of (much less secure) mech rooms, service tunnels, and odd spaces inside the major buildings on campus that can make for some satisfying exploring. go into every building, poke around every bit of basement, and try every door and you'll find some cool things. PM me if you'd like to meet up; it'll have to be the first week in Dec since i'll be out of town from thursday.

Just a caution that I'm sure is already realized, that talk of steam tunneling and public forums don't mix...see the thread about UER being investigated and the JAIL Yay thread...good luck! ~Grit.
