Busted up maglight

Me and my friend were draining today, and I'd climbed up some stepirons into a gutterbox to see where we were. I let my maglight rest on a ledge, but it was slanted so it started to fall. I yelled for my friend to catch it, but he couldn't see it and it dropped into the water. Then he picked it up, and accidentaly unscrewed the bulb-part. The lens fell out (thankfully the bulb stayed intact), and we tried to find it but it was too late, it had washed away into the fast-flowing water. Now it won't work at all. I've dropped it before and it's worked fine. It was about an 8 feet drop into water, but we picked it up fast so I don't think it got too wet internally. Is this fixable? My dad was P.Oed, and doesn't want me using his flashlight now

Yeah, it's almost certainly fixable. PM sent.

edit: One of these days I'll get around to posting Tick's Complete Guide to Maglite Repair, but I'm too lazy right now.

I fixed it on my own Turns out it was just a broken bulb. As for the lens, I found an extra in a crappy broken flashlight which fits perfectly in my mag.

Cool. I figured it was the switch, they have a habit of failing if you drop the Maglite. I've had two die in the VA Tech steam tunnels this way.

Maglites are like old-school VW's. If they break they are easy to fix and parts are easy to come by, and easy to modify as well.

Yeah, that's one reason I like 'em. Plus, I think they have the most "Bang for the Buck", so to speak.

I also have a question regarding Minimags.

I've got one, and quite frequently the bulb seems to break, or part of it, and then the wires twist. I think it is from the constant twisting of the cap. The glass then ends up shattered and gets in the threads of the cap and hardly screws off. I've gone through a few bulbs from this. Has anybody else experienced that?

Yes, that happened to me a few times too. The important thing is to make sure that the bulb is in perfectly straight, so that the ridges on the base of the bulb don't get caught under the reflector. Also, if your minimag takes a fall or other serious shock damage, remove the lens assembly immediately to make sure that a) the bulb is still in straight, and b) if any glass has chipped off, you can remove it before it gets ground into the threads. If the light was on, don't turn it off! Remove the batteries if you have to, but screwing the lens unit back down to shut off the light can crush any glass that might have been chipped off.
