Hey all,

I just joined UER and I am already enjoying all the awesome posts by everyone, and have already had my interest piqued by some of the locations, which I plan to find and visit. :]

I'm from a small town, west of Barrie, and so far I have 8 buildings under my belt, though I still consider myself a rookie. lol. The locations are mainly in Simcoe County, and I already have plans to locate more in the Blue Mountain area. My passion for UE stems from my love of photography, and the first abandoned house I ever explored was fuelled by my desire to get pictures of the inside of this forgotten home. So now I'm hooked.

Anyways, if you can offer me any new locations in or around my area and any tips from you seasoned pros, I would be eternally grateful. I'm also hoping to start exploring some industrial sites, once I find them.

Of course, the best part, pictures. ;]

This site is located just outside Wasaga Beach, Ontario. I don't have much information on it, if you find anything I'd love to hear it. It has radio signal towers, and this place is FULL of stuff; a printing press, radio equipment, magazines and books about CB Radio Codes and how to broadcast your own radio program, old TVs, clothes, Christmas Lights, office chairs, etc.

I did find a sign that says Georgian Bay Radio Communications, tried to google it but came up empty handed on info. The rest of the pics are on my photo journal, some of them are too big and the formatting doesn't translate all that well into the UER interface. Enjoy.

Wow faded_x that's a great site you got there! I've never been to Wasaga before, but I've probably passed nearby a couple times. Welcome to the boards! I read through the rest of your entries in your journal...you have great style and eye on the photographic end, and great locations also!

Hello!

Near Barrie, eh? What about visiting Edgar Ontario? It's an entire abandoned Military town! (well, then used as a psych.)...it's a fun place to explore, as long as you don't make too much noise...

Thanks Axel, I have plans to find many more in my area, and I would love to add some to the database eventually. I'm glad you like my style. lol. ;]

Thanks Jono, I think a trip to Edgar would be very interesting, I'll definitely have to make plans with my team to go check it out. Where/how can I find out more about it, location, access, etc?

Welcome to UER! Good work on the radio tower location. Too bad the phone number for the company in pic IM000901.jpg is truncated. It's often hard to research these places because they are so utterly forgotten by the world. It's nice to have you up there covering that part of the province!

Thanks Fedge! The first house I ever explored was outside of Orangeville, and it was a random occurrence, me, my sister and one of my friends wanted to check it out because we are such avid photographers, and will go to insane lengths to get good pictures. After that, the three of us became what I know call my 'team' and we have since investigated many more. It's turned into quite the passion actually. ;]

The radio station continues to lure me back from time to time... there is just so much stuff to see, every time I come back I find more cool things to photograph. With the amount of reading material in there you'd think I would have some information on the place by now. lol. I will continue to search though, it's quite the find.

In your entry called 'Red & White' on your site, was that wallpaper with all the pictures of the 18 wheelers? I'd kill for wallpaper like that. You've got some nice shots on your site too.

yep.

I grew up in rural Ontario, but on the other side of Collingwood from you. Georgian Bay Radio sounds really familier - I think they used to run a series of AM and FM radio stations between Barrie and Owen Sound, maybe Wiarton. Sounds like a neat find, though.

My cottage is about 45 mins. north of Barrie, and I've toured all around the countryside west of Barrie - what town are you living in?

Very cool! Love to find something like that. Great pics on your site of the other locations too.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

Mortimer: Thanks, and yes, that was wallpaper, pretty sweet eh? lol. The entire room was trucks!

Crossfire: I doubt you've heard of it, but I live in Glencairn, it has an estimated population of 100-200 maybe? It's about 10 minutes south of Stayner. The radio station was a pretty cool find... during the summers when my friends and I would drive to the beach we would pass it, and I always wanted to explore it, but all my friends said a bum lived there. lol. Once I established my UE team, we had to check it out. ;]

Yokes: Thanks. Hah, I guess so. X family, unite!

Jonsered: Yeah, it's an awesome site, I was lucky to find it. I'm glad you like the other locations, I will probably post more pictures from them on here eventually.

Really great pics you took! I Googled 1574 Dupont Street and came up with nuttin'...I guess that address doesn't exist anymore...big surprise LOL. I especially like the old bus 'cause I have a thing for old trucks and buses. I think it would make a really cool converted motorhome...and I don't mean with recycled curtains, shag carpet, lynoleum flooring and beds made from 2x4's. I'd do it with nuttin' but the best materials....hardwood flooring, leather upolestry etc.

Heh - I know where Glencairn is! I used to drive through Stayner all the time to get over to Waubashene and Port Severn, when I lived in Flesherton. We used to get tired of the same route, so we'd try different ways, and I've been through Glencairn before.

Not too far from you are the ruins of an old Pine Tree Line comm bunker, which are now on the grounds of a private airfield. It used to be a race-track way back in the day, too. The bunker, as far as we all know, has been destroyed, but you can still see the mound of earth where it was. It's on highway 26 a few klicks east of Stayner.
