They will be remodeling it soon
http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=25595

Perhaps that will open it up a bit.

since the work started on the floridan, its been sealed tighter than fort knox. there was a way in before they fenced off the back lot....
unfortunately, on one of our many recon trips, we found there was a security camera from the courthouse trained directly on our access point. so we scrapped our infiltration, but the entrance was sealed anyway.
it's even harder to get in now that the crews are there. unless one were to try and gain entry after dark. the only way in i can see now is if someone with some serious lock picking skill were to have at that front door. either that, or a drive-by 'bricking'. climbing that sign is a creative, but dangerous idea. theres no indicator as to its structural integrity. plus lugging the ladder you would need to get up there with would be a dead giveaway as to your intentions

however, i do know a way into maas brothers. it's extremely risky, though.

I'm up in Palatka, but I think I'd like explore down there with you guys, as i can never find anyone to explore with up here, even though there's a couple great places in this area that I've been dying to get into, but I'm leery of going in to any of them alone. I've done a little scouting, but it seems like everything requires a lock to be picked, and I haven't ever tried, and one place will be demolished fairly soon, not giving me the time to learn :/.

the sites I'm interested in are: the Florida Furniture factory here in town, the St. James motel here in town, and Palatka water works. Palatka water works is easy enough to get into, but the former two are locked up pretty well.

Where is Palatka exactly, anyways? I have never heard of the place... is it a suburb of Tampa?

Sorry to be double posting but does anyone know the name of the building that is next to, kind of attached to the Kress building and the cigar shop? I hopped inside there, but I didn't go very far in because it was pretty gross and I didn't have a mask with me. Here's a couple pictures I took.

I saw a couple of ways into the Maas Brothers Building as well which were kind of easily noticeable in such a popular area.

Saw the Floridan and noticed the HUGE camera at the top of the courthouse, nice. What is with the Courthouse by the way? It had what looked like Secret Service agents all over the place and there were barriers surrounding the place.

The Kileys NationsBank Park was kind of neat inside lots of scenic places to take pictures and the City of Tampa seems to be bringing it back to life. We saw some crews in there cutting the grass and trees; you know, the usual.

The building was quite plain inside.... I have a couple better pictures but imageshack is being a pain at the moment... I will get a couple more later on. One last thing, what in the world is that tag on all of these buildings(Maas, Kress, Floridan)? Was that one of you guys? hahaha

the building attatched to the kress is woolworth's. last time i was down there i popped my head into a hole in the glass and had a look. i deemed it uninteresting and scratched it off my list of places to get into.

the deal with the added security around the courthouse lately is because of Sami Al-Aryan's trial. as he was accused of conspiring with terrorists, they had all kinds of police out there. i do believe they've wrapped that up now, though. the guys in the suits out there are the bailiffs from the courthouse. theres usually about 5 or 6 of them outside during the day. scout the Floridan and you WILL be watched. i know this from experience

im rather glad that park is being restored, its got a kind of sentimental value to me. when i was taking beginning photography at USF, the park's features were often the subject of my projects. it hurt to see it screwed up.

what tags are you talking about? actually, ive probably seen them, but i cant picture it right now. do you have a photo?

The tags are what looks like GS and its kind of in a diamond shape. They aren't artistic in nature at all. Every boarded up entrance of the Maas building on the southern side has these tags and there is at least one on each building that is abandoned downtown. Let me check the picture I got of the Maas alley and see if its on the wall.

Sweet. Perhaps my letter to the mayor about it actually did something.

The tags that show up on a lot of the buildings are probably from when the Obey guy was putting on an exhibit at USF. see:

http://pqasb.pqarc...the+mystery+of+Mao

Really, I'm getting sick of seeing them everywhere. Some originality would be nice. I'd almost rather see the monthly "New crappy movie" flyers plastered everywhere than another lameass OBEY stencil.

Just saw this today:

A 'Frosty' welcome (Hotel Floridian)
This time the roly-poly man of snow didn't come to join children at play. No, he came to drive the vultures away.

Hey...wait a minute. I've been slobbering about the floridian for years, and I didn't know why...until I started hitting the UE sites...And lo & behold, there's actually someone around here who doesn't just go to Ybor for a good time....Too bad I won't get to see the Floridian, but at least, now i can hook up and check stuff out without getting killed alone!!!! Let's keep this thread alive so that this newbie can catch up on the local scene......

I hope the vultures stay in the Floridan, there are thousands of them up there.

It's fucking gothic and cool. I hope that the Floridan still retains it's old vulture-ridden and creepy motif after the renovations.

They are building Kohles all over the place. There have been commercials on for them for about a year now and there were no stores in FL. Thats all changed now.

heh, i saw star wars episode 1 there in '99. it was a nice theater, but i cant imagine how interesting it probably isnt if one were to get inside. unless they left equipment....(insert devious laughter here). i would probably volunteer for that particular mission, but it seems this is my last week in tampa.
