I was on my way to Chicago midway airport when i got distracted by a building, nice lil abandoned asylum.

toward the back of the building there's a kitchen, bitch black and smelled like feet (mmmmm who's hungry?)the kitchen had burned down and through the roof you can see a huge smokestack.

This is the hallway with the storage rooms on the left and courtyard doors on the right.

hallway4 with patient rooms, these rooms, had no locks, so these must have been for "mild" patients...realize how few rooms?

on the trip out, I snapped this pic through the fence it is the cafeteria, or something.

im unfamilliar with this one, over the spring/summer of 05 we were on an asylum kick for a while, but never came across this one. does anyone know the actual name of it?

[side note] anyone ever check out manteno, or Anna, IL?
if not, they were fun, manteno is a good starter place, safe flooring, easy access, tho its patroled a bit, early morning was allways nice imo, tho very quiet and errie.

anna is really big, and very creepy at night, but definatly entertaining, tho i have ran into, and had the living crap scared out of me by groups of kids "ghost hunting" there.... yea...

theres a small arial view of the place. its huge.

it also includes a pretty large tunnel system, most of the enterances are sealed, tho theres a few including a hole in one of the walls in the main building's basement.

its pretty far south of me, so i dont get to explore it as much as i would like, its about 8 hours from me now sadly

here's a rather dated, image of what it once looked like.

it doesnt quite look like this anymore.

have you checked out the armory in joliet?
or a little firther south theres a great beginner's place, but still fun for a few strolls at night called Manteno.

and theres an abandoned slaughter house north of you, near the town of Irene that is pretty crazy too.

Thanks Alex, I've been to Manteno several times, but that slaughterhouse is new to me. I'm pretty familiar with the abandonments around Ottawa, but up near Dekalb I haven't had a lot of opportunities to explore.

the slaughter house was wieeeeerd. but wow i wish i knew how to give directions to the place. for some reason i get lost ALOT out by Irene, and its sad, theres only like 4 main roads out there. heh
i know, if your going north thru irene, and you go past bloodspoint/BP rd. the first diagonal road that has an open angle on your right, you turn right, and follow that a few blocks. but yea, its hard to keep your bearings on directions out there late at night.
i can talk to a few friends still down in that area, and see if they know more precise directions.

Choate Mental Hospital in Anna is still active. I was just released on 5-9-06 after spending 10 days there. All i ever seen on duty at one time was one security guard, so theres not too much risk of getting caught because he is inside the buildings half the time. Plus the shift changes are at 7:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m., and 11:00 p.m. so watch for the traffic going through at around those times if you are there, and dont enter off of 51 because of the main office and cameras at the entrance. also be careful with some doors because they have security alarms....

I drove out there today. I followed some leads from some other people and the stuff you sent me. Nothing still. I saw a man riding his bike when i was on Irene Road. I stopped and talked to him briefly. He said he could kind of remember a slaughterhouse that was up the street aways off of Poole and Townhall Road. He said it used to be right in front of the Town Hall building. I couldnt get much out of him but he did say "used to remember". I drove up on Town hall and took it all the way to where it crosses I-90 and then back. I didnt see anything at all not even a townhall building. I'm thinking that it has been torn down, but still i saw no remains of anything. There are some new residential developments towards the end of Townhall Road. Maybe that forced them to demo the building. I dont know......

How long ago was it that you where out there?

Ok i am at the point now where i 99% believe this place doesnt exist and never has. I did tons of homework on it. I went and talked to people in the area, scooted it on five different occasions with a friend of mine. I also went into the county records and read a couple history books on the area. I brough up records on every business that has been in that area for the last 150 years......nothing. More then likely this person who said they saw it came upon something else, but i have no idea what that would of been either.

Much like the "abandoned asylum" that started this thread.

Whatever "Big Tex" saw, it wasn't an asylum.
