SUV: Superconducting Super Collider (SSC)

Suburban Underground Vadders

Finally, I got the site updated with the trip that Allva, Dallas-Winston (Dirtbag) and I took to the SSC in Waxahachie, TX. You may have heard of this beast called the “Atom Smasher” before and now you can get a little glimpse of what happened to the 2 Billion dollars spent on this Government Laboratory. 12 pages of pure creamy SUV goodness!

Excellent exploration. Thats a pretty a cool place.

Awesome site! Man, never thought I'd say this after one crazy weekend - but I wanna go to Texas! I wonder if that speeding ticket I never paid has disappeared yet....like 12 years ago...

Excellent explore. Whats weird is I was looking throw an old filing cabinet in my high school over the summer, it was filled with old newspaper clippings going all the way back to the fifties. The newest one I saw there was from around 1993 and guess what it was on?

Yep, the atom smasher.

Yeah, they were really hyping it up in the early 90s telling all us school children that it was going to change everything… and it would have except that the government decided that it was going to cost to much. The long term benefits would have been very valuable. Maybe 50 years from now we can be where we would have been 10 years from now.

I like it! too much cool stuff for there not to be some kind of conspiracy theory. Keep at the place. I'm looking forward to seeing some tunnels.

Yeah...like in T3 - that big ol SSC tunnel they got into - I'm guessing the real deal wouldn't be quite so cool - but for some reason I felt drawn to that tunnel, it called me..."Chaaaaaainsaaaaaw! ChaaaaaaaaaaaaIIINSSSSAAAAAW! EXPLORE MY DEPTHS YOU SUBTERRANEAN STUD! Sooooo deeeeeep! Soooo loooong..."

okay...I promise not to share my fantasies anymore...

I'll tell you what: This may just be wishful thinking, but the big honking windowless buildings that were, for some reason, still alarmed? I'd be mighty interested in what's contained in those:

A couple of buddies of mine work at the Naval Research Laboratories in Maryland and all the buildings where the really hush-hush black-bag stuff takes place are these big windowless behemoths.

Important not only to keep people from being able to see in, obviously, but it also keeps interested parties deaf: A neat little trick that's been developed is a device that shoots an infrared laser at a window pane. As sound occures behind the pane, the waves hit it and cause it to vibrate at the frequency of the sound, this oscillates the reflected laser beam at those frequencies, a sensor on the device picks up the reflected beam and a transducer converts it back into an audio signal. Even if there was nothing to see, there might be something to hear....

Too bad I'm so damned far away from Texas, I'd have a field day at a facility like that.

"'13.2V...' Thirteen volts. It's thirteen volts? Jesus, I could practically be made of salt water and this wouldn't hurt me."
"That says '13.2kV.'"
"Ohhhh... Thirteen-thousand volts... I suppose that's a little different...."

Did you guys ever hear the "story" about the Aluminum Goose at Raytheon here in Colorado a few years back?

From what I remember a disgruntled security employee took up the hobby of attaching 1'x6' lengths of aluminum foil to the local geese via lengths of string.

Apparently the geese flying over the facility as they hopped from lake to lake would set off the radar alarms around the facility.

Not sure what they do/did there, great big windowless buildings across the street from an AFB with big giant golfball domes containing some sorts of satellite/radare antenna...

I haven’t noticed any antennae or dishes on any of these buildings but the installation had nothing to do with the air force or military (that the public knows of). If they needed to communicate long distances between SSC posts they probably would have used the tunnel to run hard lines between them. As for alarms, the doors aren’t really that secure… just secure enough to try to keep would be vandals out. They are, however using one of the buildings for storage – Styrofoam cups. That might give them a reason to alarm some of the doors but not the one that we ran across. We shall eventually find out!
