Posting Etiquette

So I've been posting to these boards for a couple weeks, and I finally have an expedition of my own to share. My question is, what exactly is the etiquette for what to show and what not to show? Do I specify the location? How unspecific should I be? I have lots of pictures; should I blur people's faces out of them? How long is too long for a post like this?

I know I could just pick it up by watching and waiting for a few more weeks, but i want to show my stuff now...

Forbidden fruit a flavor has
That lawful orchards mocks;
How luscious lies the pea within
The pod that Duty locks!

It's your own call. Some people claim that they "own" a location because its in the UE DB or that they were the first to explore it, but its baloney. Basically, use your own judgement. If you feel like a location would be well served if it had a formal name, then by all means state it. (e.g. A.J.C. Meat Packing Company) If it is an abandoned house, put some descriptive name as most houses don't have official titles. (e.g. "666" House)

Giving locations of these places is your own call as well. Some people, especially in the larger cities, are less willing to divulge information out on location because there are greater chances of vandalism (e.g. Chicago). In more rural or open areas, thats less of a concern (e.g. Ashland, KY).

As for blurring faces or whatnot, thats again your call. I don't blur faces in mine, because face it, if you go in there _legally_, you have nothing to hide. If you trespass, the authorities are not going to peep in on these sites and go "ahha!" and come after you. Now if you break and enter, vandalize, tag, set fires, etc., then you should NOT post photographs at all, especially if you put yourself in the photo.

My own calls on the subject: Use names as specific as possible; locations are being rewritten (on my site) to be less specific; no blurred faces.

Surprisingly, I agree with most of what Seicer said. I enjoy coming up with different names for a location (if I am the first to post anything about it), mainly because it's fun. In addition, I don't keep the location of a place secret to placate my own ego, I do it because, in the last year, I've see three separate locations I have visited and posted info on go up in smoke. I don't know if it's related, but I'm not taking any chances. I mean, these locations are easy to find, but I don't want to be a part of someone torching a building.

I blur faces because I know that those I explore with don't want their faces spread across the internet.

In most cases, just use common sense. There are no hard and fast rules, but there are plenty of recommendations.

Also it is not a good idea to post a description of the exact location where you entered a building. Finding your own way in is part of the game, and also protects the site.

I forgot to mention this, but do not post, for example --
"We broke into the AJC Meat Packing Company at 12:30 PM on December 4, 2005 by breaking a lock and busting a door down."

That's just ripe for you getting caught doing an illegal activity.

And Crossfire agreeing with my posts two days in a row? What? Did hell freeze over?

Just read and follow the forum rules and use common sense and you should be fine. Try to keep posts in the right catagories - I'm sure it annoys mods to have to the threads of those not paying attention. ~Grit.
