New to forum, opinions requested....

OK I'm new here, and would like to earn the "full membership" but i don't want to mess up somebody else's possible secret. Do people frown on revealing general locations of properties (unlisted in the public db)? I have been doing this for most of my life (most of the best places i know of were from before i started taking pics)but if it would help you guys (and me) i would be more than happy to divulge what i do know. I have just moved to nevada recently, and would like to find some good spots(i'm sure there's better ones than just the drains in vegas) any feedback or ideas would be appreciated.

A location in the database or on another site is not "owned" by anybody. If you were to come upon a location that someone wants to keep "secret" for whatever reason, you have all the power in the world to reveal it if that is your wish. For example, a few people made their location 'invisible' on this site, but when I visited it and contributed to the location, I put more details, including the history of the location in to contribute to the community. I've had two people 'whine' to me about that, but from the way I see it, no one owns the location and no one has 100% control over it. This is a *public* site, after all, and no "full membership/level 3" system is going to stop people from contributing.

All in all, if you have something to contribute, post it in the forum with attached photos! We'd all love to see some from Nevada since it seems underrepresented. Don't be afraid to share a location if it is "hidden" on this site or others, since it is *your* photos, *your* exploration and *your* commentary.

Good luck!

Amend: Since I had one person already whine to me about a line that he took out of context, let me clearify --

"This is a *public* site, after all, and no "full membership/level 3" system is going to stop people from contributing."

If you read the preceding paragraphs, you will note that I make comparisons to owning a location and controlling a location. No one person can dictate how a location is displayed or controlled. For example, if I were to put up a super-secret location that took me 24 hours to walk to in super-stealthy manner, and then someone comes along and "blows" my whole location by listing the location, some historical information, and whatnot, then what can I do? It's a public database, anybody can contribute to it, and no one person can control what he/she sees or does. This can also relate to the whole "vandalism because of this site" thread but I won't go into that.

The "full membership/level 3" comment was geared towards the fact that some "basic members" people will post photographs of a location that is already in the UE DB that may be hidden from the general public. Using my example earlier, if a "basic member" were to post 15 photographs, with descriptions, location inforoation and whatnot to the Main section of the forum or the UE Photography, what can I do? I don't own the location, I don't own the information. I can't control what he/she does with his/her spare time or photographs or information that they researched.

In short, read the post again if you have any questions. Calling someone a "jackass" because they failed to make the connection between topics in my constructive post is not what I call a ocnversation. Thanks.

To add another couple of cents, I think if you read around enough here, you will see that there are 2 different camps. Basically, do what you think is right, just be cautious. Direct entry details are veboten, but posting pix and discussing a location should cause no problems at all. Heck we are all here for the abandonment porn anyway, aren't we?

Thanks Seicer and Lopix, i appreciate the input. Judging by the number of responses (and the abundance of views) i got the answer i needed. I hope your reply didn't cause you any trouble. Tomorrow I will post some info on some stuff that shouldn't ruffle anyones feathers. I know a few that are hardly secrets, but still aren't listed (at least in the public DB ). Thanks again.

I'll offer this as well. Nobody has rights to any location true enough. But if you post the real names and details and pics of a location that other people might be exploring in a publicly viewable thread, (search engines random u.e. home page photos, property managers security companies cops vandals just about anyone can see it) you run the risk of exposing the location, having it closed or vandalized or getting someone busted. If that doesnt matter to you then post away but consider that others might be adversely affected by any heat you bring down on a location because of that. I suspect that it does matter to you or you wouldnt have asked. This is an issue worth consideration.

Or if your only concern is obtaining Full Member status then I think you should consider that other Full Members are able to recommend you based on your actions on this forum. Also worth considering.

Thanks for asking.
