| | Abandoned Reactor - film setting for: "The Abyss" < on 10/3/2005 5:38 PM >
| | | If you're a fan of the film then you'll love this! Apologies if you already have this on your boards.. I only found out recently that the film "abyss" was shot inside a dis-used reactor bed filled with water to create a massive underwater film set! Anyway, I was looking it up on Google trying to find picture of it, and I found this link. Some guys who live near the reactor went and explored it, parts of the film set are still inside, including film cases and stuff everywhere!
http://www.x-plane...entures/abyss.html If anyone has any more photos of this I would love to see them! cheers, slacker [Admin note: Cleaned up grammar and spelling. Try harder next time ~Tux] [last edit 10/4/2005 12:32 AM by uem-Tux - edited 1 times]

| | | That's production companies for you, leaving their crap behind when they leave. Did you/could you get inside the set built inside the reactor?

| | | From a UE perspective this particular circumstance is a good thing. But from a refuse and environmental standpoint it is not. I have seen production companies leave piles and piles of garbage in the woods and on beaches. Is that a good thing?

| | | Good point, Viper. I did not quite see it that way, I thought just of the UE aspect. Maybe I should look more at other people's view before spouting. David

| | | This location is actually in the LDB, I know you guys can't see it right now but several people on this board have been there and could tell you a little about it.

| | | It is still in good repair. Longboug, Red, and I were the first to get in from the forum I believe. Red had a broken toe and limped in. I was more worried about her then I was taking pictures, plus tmost I got turned out terrible. All in all it was great trip although we didnt get all over the massive place. http://www.uer.ca/locations/show.asp?locid=21289

| | | I`m sorry to hear about the broken toe. Mark , those pictures are brilliant thanks for showing them! that door is something else. Are those chains i see in the wall around / above the door? I would love to visit this place. You are very lucky to have been there! I also hope people that visit this location treat it with much respect as it is very unique. p.s. Sorry about the spelling! My grammar isnt very good either. I shall try my best from now on!

| | | Dont worry I am the token bad grammar guy. The doors were probably moved by a machine. Also the weird contraption is the wave maker for flooding the area. If anyone plans a trip let me know it can be a little difficult to get in.

See that's another reason to love/hate the LDB. I understand the reasons for using or not using a places real name in the LDB. This is a good example. I would have never know "XXXX Power Plant" was the location for the Abyss. I guess all this keeps the sites somewhat safer but it sure makes it harder to research and learn more about places.

| | | I think i remember that door from the film. I think it is from a scene where : the main character jams his hand in the closing door to attempt to save his friend from water rushing in due to the rig being broken ? It must have been so interesting to see the set! James Cameron is a genius! My friend has a dvd of The Abyss , and on it is a "making of" the film , (which shows much of the development of the set) from which i was originally inspired to search the net for any information about it! And its great to know it is still there. Which is why it`s also sweet to see those photos too thanks again Mark! If only the UK had such things to explore...

I didn't know either, I just looked at the name of the town.

| | | Mark you`re quite right, I didn`t seem overly positive then! I have checked out a fair few interesting bunkers and tunnels over the years (in fact i have some photos to share sometime!) but nothing yet as grand as this reactor/film set! It appears the US has far superior bunkers and silos to explore. ( UK dos`nt have any proper missile silos , as far as i`m aware?) But having said that, there are some very unique places here, like Witley Manor (no longer accessible unfortunately) and mad bunker complex`s around Wiltshire etc over here so i should stop moaning and go find it ! sorry to go off-topic there Did u get up close to the main rig in the reactor bed?

| | | No due to her broken toe we didnt do half the things we wanted to. That was for a later trip that never actually happened.

It does, you just need to know where to look - a lot of filming takes place here. Chris...
We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

The original poster (slacker) of this sub-thread is not level-3, so he isn't able to see some of the galleries. A lot of the great ones were removed due to some disputes between a lot of users and UER admin/mods and are on Turbozurtek's web-site which is available for all to see.
