Victorian Village and the Sears Building - Memphis

Hey,

I'm a former Memphis resident (and new to UE) and was wondering if anyone had been to Victorian Village. I have a little bit of insight in it, so I wanted to share in case people didn't know about it.

I forget what street it's on, but it's on the outskirts of downtown, right next door to Juvenile Hall (if you search for the Mallory Neely house on google, you'll find it). My best friend worked for the Pink Palace and gave tours of these houses. My favorite is the Mallory-Neely house. Since she gave tours, I got to go to all of the restricted places, like the tower (where Mr. Neely would "watch his money float down the river." He traded cotton and could see the barges from the tower) and third floor. You should be able to pretty easily get into the basement of the Mallory-Neely house through the lattice around the porch (not that I'm encouraging it). And, a sidenote, many people say they see faces come alive in the paintings in the dining room and main hallway. Also, some people have seen a woman crying in the third floor bathroom off of the hallway next to the elevator shaft. The Woodruff-Fontaine house is also there, and, in May, the house supposedly goes through "haunting season." The original owner's child died in May, and, that entire month, chandeliers spin and stuff like that.
There's a third house there that was not maintained by the city that has a "lady in red." Most people say they get an awful feeling when their inside it. It was home to the Memphis College of Arts before they relocated. It's been abandoned for a while.
The other two houses are closed because of Memphis' budget problems, so they're basically abandoned.
Also, the Magevney house is a little bit further down the road. It was the first place to hold a Catholic Mass in Memphis. A lot of people see a little girl in the very small children's bedroom. Mr. Mageveny's sister was a nun of a particular sect who would beat themselves with whips that had shards of glass on the end (kind of like you would see in the show Carnivale, if you've seen that.) People tend to find this house somewhat "evil" and feel a strong male presence, most likely Mr. Mageveny.

All of these are in a pretty bad part of town, and I'm sure have pretty tight security (I know they have alarms on the windows), but I hope you guys at least like the small bit of history.

And my boyfriend used to explore the Sears building by Metro off of Cleveland with friends, and he found a Memphis UE guestbook once. I thought that was cool.

And attached are pictures of the Mallory-Neely and Mageveny houses.

I put that guestbook there in February of 2003. My how the time flies. Sears has an extensive page in the database, which you'd be able to see if you knew some of the mods or uh, well, I'll keep those opinions to myself. There's even a page from a visit to a non-Pink Palace house in VV. If you know anyone in memphis who's into UE, tell em to drop me a line at [email protected]

Hey, that's really cool to hear from the guy who actually left the book. Have you taken a look at it lately? I wonder if a lot of people have signed.

Maybe someday I'll get to see the Sears page, haha. Apparently he has a video of him and his friends exploring the inside, but I haven't seen it yet. I wonder if there are any pictures of the inside in the photography section.

If I run across anyone I know in Memphis who'd be into UE, I'll definitely share your email. Otherwise, if I'm in town, I'll have to shoot you a message. I'm sure there are some pretty kickass places, at least way more than here in san diego.
