Mountain Equipment Coop.

They sell camping/climbing/exploring type gear. It's run as a non-profit coop.

I get my hiking boots from them, as well as various other outdoor supplies.

Thank you Womprat, I did not know that....learn something new every day!

I do no provisioning at MEC, but I've seen the stuff before, and wondered what the deal was with it.

Found it too epensive and can find better stuff in my closet, and the surplus stores.

Mm, sorry, I should have explained as others have already done for me. Mea culpa.

Still, they have pretty cheap headlamps and other somewhat specilized gear - you have to be selective, but can get decent price/quality ratios with some of their kit. Still, it has been trending a bit towards the eddie bauer demographic lately.

Heeey. Nice site.

I was just looking at the headlamps, and yeah, they're pretty decently priced. I'm considering ordering one, in fact. Just trying to balance cost with batter life/lamp brightness. I don't have much money these days.

I got an awesome little red LED keychain light for $3 there. Turned out to be invaluable last weekend, when white light would have been too attention catching to the police who were scoping out the hospital I was exploring with a spotlight.

(Much thanks to the idiot drunk teenagers who make a ruckus and got the cops called in the first place. Morons.)
