Hi! I'm new to this website, but have been doing infiltration-esque stuff for several years now....anyway, I was wondering what kind of clothing/gear you take on "missions." For example, I usually wear dark blue jeans, a black sweatshirt, and a black beanie with a headlamp. I also carry a backpack with a bike multi-tool and some home-made etriers made from 1 inch webbing. I can use the multi-tool to unscrew and pry stuff, and can attach the etriers to things using fifi hooks and carabeiners(sp?). In addition, I have a small monocular for helping to identify cars as police or non-police from far away. So do any of you guys have a standard set of equipment that you carry when you go infiltrate stuff?

Well, I saw a bunch of posts about specific types of gear and camo, but I didn't see any about everyone's personal "bag of tricks" that they take with them on every outing....

When I'm wandering around campus, I usually have a minimag in my backpack or pocket, my camera, and sometimes pieces of coat hanger wire bent a certain way.

If I'm doing a drain or tunnel system, I'll take along appropriate stuff like rubber boots when there'll be water, headlamp, big maglite, etc.

I've found a crowbar to be almost worth carrying it for certain manholes, and some homebrew tools have been very nice to me. Certain shapes of prybars and un-latchers I have made especially. I don't use crowbars or prys to smash or vandalize, or even to permenantly change a place. They are best for opening heavy and stuck things.

This help?

I take my camera EVERYWHERE I go these days, including every day when I go to work. In my camera bag I carry my 9 LED flashlight, a leatherman tool, mini tripod, and a grate key I recently found.
(It's a L shaped peice of metal that some tunnel grates require to be opened.)

Edit: When I go on an actual mission I take a few extras like a video camera, extra flashlight, first aid kit, screwdriver etc.

footwear: either my black shoes, or my grey trail-runners
other: black leather fingerless motorcycle gloves
maybe a black bandana (long hair might get caught)

Yeah, I did a good job feeding the little bloodsuckers myself... Hehehe, and guess where we're heading again soon... Better get that repellant ready.

I'm kind of a safety nut...I always bring a first aid kit - spare light - linemans tool.

On larger expeditions I'll bring along "Search and Rescue Gear" including a 3 foot crowbar - 24" bolt cutter - small welding torch. We haven't ever used any of it for B&E, I'm happy to say - we've always been able to get access the old-fashioned way.

My favorite piece of gear is the superlight - it's serious overkill for a lot of places, but when we do the big underground missile bases out here it comes in handy. I mounted a 1M candlepower spotlight on a hardhat - i have a motorcycle battery on a strap over the shoulder - lots of light for at least 5 hours - gets heavy by the end of the night.

We invited a new guy along one night, we all met up at a Village Inn (aka Dennys/Perkins) - this new guy comes walking in with his headlight on, equipment belt with all kinds of pouches and a respirator hanging off it...What a freak! Everyone else was dressed all in black (fit right in with the goth crowd there at 11pm) but this guy - man like Tackleberry in Police Academy.

We had like a 3 hour drive to get to the target too - so we all geared up once we got there - a little too prepared...

As in multitool/leatherman, or lineman's handset?

Still a work in progress, but this is my current incarnation of DT_Gear_Bag v.1.01:

1. One 3 D-battery MagLite (22,000 candlepower)
2. Rayovac 3-in-1 Sportsman Headlamp (with red/blue/white LEDs for lots of versatility)
3. First Aid kit containing:
- a) 1 minor/medium burn pack
- b) 1 roll of 2" gauze
- c) 1 roll of 3" gauze
- d) antibiotic ointment
- e) alcohol wipes
- f) band-aids
- g) adhesive tape
- h) 2 2"x2" gauze pads
- i) small pair of medical scissors
4. Leatherman's Tool
5. Extra batteries (both D and AAA)
6. Roll of twine (not sure how much it is)
7. 12' emergency rope

If I get the possibility to drive to a location, I take the full first aid kit and leave it in there - add about 8 or 10 more rolls of gauze, a shock blanket, large burn patches, 4"x4" patches... yeah, you get the picture =P

The unofficial and probably incomplete list:

Camera + lens(es)
Tripod and thread adapter, if necessary
lots o' film
cable release
flashgun
flash reflector
flashbulbs
2D maglite
2AA maglite
2AA Streamlight
spare D and AA cells
pocket knife
pepper foam
nitrile gloves

For clothing I prefer jeans and either a dark t-shirt or long-sleeved shirt, and combat boots or rubber riding boots, as conditions require.

Considering how often I injure myself, I really need to start carrying first-aid supplies... and some might argue that three flashlights is overkill. Bah.

Krenta, I've been out and had 2 lights go, so having 3 can be a damn good idea... But with the way you seem to injure yourself, forget a first-aid kit, carry a doctor with you...

Never! I usually have 3 when I'm doing something serious. I'll take my LED headlamp (I'm going to write a review on it in the knowledge section), at least one 2AAmag and a 4Dmaglite if it'll be useful and I'm taking a backpack.

Even when I walk around campus at night, I usually have a 2AAmag in my back pocket for all those pesky dark mechanical rooms, rooftops, and crawlspaces.

every day life, i usually carry a pocket folder(spyderco or benchmade) a multitool(usually a leatherman) a space pen, weather-resistant lighter, and a pair of photons(mini-led lights). couple other odds and ends on my keychain, in my wallet and such. when im going out exploring/hiking/whatever, i usually take a messenger-bag type deal, and throw in some 550/para cord, a 4aa dive light(i love it, not much bigger then a mag-light, and significantly brighter), usually some spare batteries for the light,a space blanket, a pack of baby wipes, a compass, a roll of ductape(i shred the core out and squash it flat to save space), and some 5-minute epoxy putty. and depending on the day, i usually have a few pens/pencils, paper/notebook, wire, and extra multi-tool or two, and assorted other junk.
i used to have a carbide hacksaw blade, and a multi-tool adapter for hex bits, and all kinds of bits(3prong phillips type, torx, security torx, allen, philleps, spanner, etc; as well as a krill lamp(kinda like a battery powered glowstick, will stay lit for literally days on end) but i recently lost them, and need to get them replaced.

sounds like a lot, but most of it is pretty small, and packs together pretty well, and many of the items are multiple purpose. I dont carry specific first aid stuff, but ive never gotten an injury i couldnt fix with duct tape
no kidding, ive used it to tape up sprained ankles, and to temporarily bandage cuts/large abrasions, etc. and unless you shave, it hurts when it comes off

i figure my photons and krill can serve as backup lights in an emergency, wouldnt be good for exploring, but they should let me come out of a place if my light dies(and i forgot to bring extra batteries, lost them, whatever)

yogurt and beer. mmmm......
