| | Holmes Foundry, Sarnia < on 8/27/2005 9:25 PM >
| | | As far as I know this is the only abandoned building in Sarnia. I was hoping to add it to the UE DB but I'm not a full member yet. The land is up for sale so whoever's interested in going through it I suggest you do it soon. It's made up of two buildings and they're both empty warehouses. Both of them have wide open doorways so anyone could just waltz right in, but one buildings doorway is hidden in shrubbery so if you're planning on getting in you may have to dig through the bushes. It's located on the corner of Exmouth and Christina, right beside an overpass and facing the highway, you can't miss it. A few words of warning though... the places is crawling with asbestos. Plus the fuzz's HQ is right across the street, but out of view, so be stealthy when going through the gates. Enjoy the pictures

| | | A warning: Years ago while going though school, I worked at a London laboratory for KD money. Samples from the Holmes foundry kept me busy for almost a year. There were some fairly nasty products and waste on this site and I would not be surprised if there were still residual within soil and structure. At the very least wear boots, gloves and a dust mask. ~ As far as abandoned buildings; when I worked at Esso Chemical years ago, I had a LOT of time to explore Sarnia. I gave up on anything more exciting than a run-down crack-house.

| | | If you want to see a good pic of Sarnia, find an old Canadian $10 bill. Look on the side without the dead white guy. That's (by most accounts, including from people who grew up there) chemical valley in all its (purple) glory. Edit to add^: wearing gloves, boots, mask, etc. is probably a pretty good idea in general at any industrial site, as most companies have enough trouble being 'environmentally friendly' at the best of times, nevermind when a branch, subsidiary or entire business goes bankrupt, causing them to close up shop. It's blankets and foam beds, and it's probably the strangest thing I've ever seen.
