| | | I drive past this thing alot when I'm going to Lake Geneva, and I never considered that it could be a good beginner UE location.
HARVARD, Ill. -- Four years ago when Motorola came to this sleepy town bringing thousands of jobs, residents welcomed the big corporation with open arms. Sixty years had passed since Harvard earned the nickname "Milk Center of the World," and most of the dairies that gave it that name were long closed. Now it turns out high-tech wasn't the savior Harvard had hoped for. Motorola is closing its cellphone manufacturing plant here and eliminating 2,500 jobs. Unlike the booming cities thousands of miles away in Silicon Valley, Harvard population 7,000 isn't sure how it will handle the hit.

Since that news clipping, the entire plant has been closed and mothballed. There was talk of a massive waterpark being built in the facility, something on the size of a mega-resort, and larger than any resort in Wisconsin Dells. The deal fell through, and the plant is just sitting there. This site would make a really good UE beginner location. The building is basically new, and has been vacant for three years. There aren't any structural flaws or hazards. The size is 1.5 million square feet, which provides plenty of places to explore, although about one third is warehouse space. I don't know about any kinds of security measures in place. This thing is in the middle of nowhere, and crime is basically zero. The building does have a power hookup, because some of the streetlights in the parking areas still turn on. I would expect the fire escapes to still be armed, but other than that, I have no idea what kinds of security there is on the site.
Does anybody have any more information on this location?
