I agree with you Baleze!

...but disagree on the sealed up manholes. There are plenty still open and cataphiles re-opens some all the time...

And for the fines, well. The only thing is because you're not from there, cops can ask you to pay the fine on the spot at the station. Also, They could refuse you the access the country next time you try to enter too. And really, it is worth pissing off another country and risking to be banned???

Wrong! Baleze is right. I do not pretend to know them all, but after having lived there for 4 years and being regularly in the quarries, be sue that the opened manholes are not so numerous. And they are pretty kept secret.

A hint: never ask a catphile 'hey give me the address of a manhole, i'd like to go there sounds cool'. It will not work.
I suggest you to post in the ckzone.org forum, telling you are looking for a guide, and the people there would be glad to help you.
Just trying to help!

Ya, I'd never try anything that blunt. I wouldnt expect them to give out an address to somebody that they dont even know.

I was looking through my bookmarks the other day and saw that sight. I wasnt sure how they would treat a foriegner, especially because I only know basic french (3 years worth), but I guess If you recommend it. I'll ask them before I go.

These guys know plenty of things about the history of the place and they might show you some spots you would never notice on a map. Speaking about the map, it comes handy only when you're in trouble and basically, you don't want to be in trouble the first times you get down there. I would rely on people rather than on a piece of paper.

I would much rather go with someone that knows the system relatively well. I would get a much better experience.

Try your best on ckzone.org, even if you only know a couple of sentences... you just have to find a guy who also speaks a little english. Integrate at first; for example, post a picture in their monthly pics thread, interact a little with the rest of the community.

Yeah, manholes are reopened sometimes but the IGC (quarries inspectors) have different ways to seal a manhole and in some cases, they are almost impossible to unseal.

Cops can ask you to pay on the spot but SNCF employees cannot if you tell them you don't have any money/bank card on you. I've done it a couple of times in the metro and technically speaking, the same thing goes with getting caught in the train tunnel.

When l was in paris about 6 weeks ago they only had 4 manholes opened in th entire 14th & 15th district.
Then on top of that you could only use them at certain times.
They are limited at the moment but the access l used th most was the PC.

Ask them where the PC entrance is, its just a hole off the side of a abandoned train tunnel.

You are right, posting a message (in English) in the 'foreign posts' part of ckzone.org is one of the best way to join French cataphiles. If nobody wants to give you the manhole entrances, it's only because giving these informations to everybody means that covers will be closed by IGC...
So if you have to come in Paris one day, just send emails to some French cataphiles and I'm sure we'll do our best to help and guide you in our quarries.

On my last visit, we had the mis-fortune of being caught by the sncf guys, luckily we had a french guy with us, we met up with him at Bysance,. He managed to talk them into letting him lead us out, thus avoiding the fine and enabling them to carry on looking for others!! The only problem was they took ALL our maps, so next time im gonna stash a couple about my person.
