remove my content please

Hi

Can you remove myself and jr-sco's locations and pictures. We posted the photos of craig dunain hospital in good faith (after much debate as to whether or not we should take the risk both to ourselfs and the person that let us in) and as we can no longer see our own content as we are not "trusted". The whole levels thing smacks of pretentiousness... we were good enough to post 100s of pictures from a location we were very lucky to get access to but are not good enough to view any decent content.. including our own.

"thanks"

nl-sco and jr-sco

Perhaps, before complaining about not having been "automatically" marked for Level 3 status, you should have requested it?

We can't be expected to examine 7000 members's profiles and decide which ones are even still around. It's your responsibility to say "Hey! I'm an active member, give me access!"

You can't get something if you never ask for it.

Anyone with content in the LDB is almost guaranteed to gain Level 3 access. After taking a quick look through your locations, I can see that you would have been guaranteed to receive Level 3 status.

The galleries are removed and the locations have been marked for deletion.

Wait a minute.....how did you do that?

I know several people that have requested their LDB entries be deleted but were told it couldn't be done!

What's the deal?

It really appears that you are quick allow people on your bad side.
I can see how this kind of post can perpetuate the "pretentious" feeling some people have. While one person would continue to come here and bash the site, another would simply ask for their content removed, both would recieve the same kind of treatment. It's sad that people are quick to blind themselves to this.

Posted by ednothing
Did they actually ask anybody, or just get pissed off and leave UER?

The assumption here being obviously negative. I cannot see how nl-sco could be taken that way. Sure the comment about the level system was negative but ya'll should stop to think why it was said. Correct me if I am wrong but none of the people who contributed to the LDB were notified that the level system was going to be put in place. I recall seeing a post about it and all the hoopalah surrounding its implementation. This would obviously be alot of work. You cannot expect all of those 7000 members to read each post, right?

Why couldn't you have emailed the members who had their info in the database? That wouldn't "smack of pretentiousness". It would show that you actually gave a damn. A percentage of those people show that they give a damn by donating.

What if an individual was trying to gain access to their info in the LDB but were denied Lvl3 for whatever reason? This person should have every right to see what they contributed. To have control over what they contributed. Because they cannot obtain Lvl 3, they cannot do this.

I've never told anyone that's ever either started a thread requesting information be removed or pm'd me that no I wouldn't do it.

I don't doubt that. I can understand the "getting pissed and leaving UER" part because it seems to be the norm with people lately. We never hear about the people who leave quietly.

Posted by ed
I wasn't trying to imply that I was mad or whatever that nl-sco was requesting their locations/pictures removed. If someone wants it done, fine, no problem. But Chuck was saying that "several" people he knew wanted locations removed and were told they couldn't.

It could easily be possible that some people have not been granted access, been told no Lvl3 for you. That right there is telling them they cannot have it removed. If I had content on here and was denied Lvl3, I would be a bit pissed, wouldn't write a cheery pm to the mods to have my stuff removed. I'd throw a shit fit and be labelled a miscreant by the majority.

Level 3 or no level 3, you are still the owner of your own content. I've even removed content belonging to people who were banned, because banned or not, the content is still there.

To make this absolutly clear: *NOBODY* has been denied having their content removed. Not one person, in the entire history of the site.

As for informing people about the level system: It was posted weeks before implementation in the Forum Issues section, as are all new forum features, upgrades, and other information. If you are interested in the events on the forum, it is your responsibility to check this section occaisionally. I can't be held responsible if you are not aware of a new feature merely because you didn't take it upon yourself to read that section. "Ignorance is no excuse", and all that.

To be fair, I believe Av has a feature in the works where people will be able to access their own content, regardless.

Yes, people have been denied access to the content they've uploaded to this site. That can happen for a number of reasons:

- They have been banned
- They do not have the required access level
- Their internet connection is down
- The server is down
- The content was deleted

This is not a library, I do not guarantee that you will have access to your content at any given time. However, I do guarantee that it will be removed if you request it.

I wonder... What do the authentication q's look like for Level 3?

If 7000 people (the number quoted above) asked for Level 3 tomorrow, how would the current amount of moderators cope?

Given this, if everyone with an LDB location applied tomorrow...Again, how long would it take for the average person to be approved?

Assuming the process is a little more involved than clicking 'yeah, sure, authenticate - why not' and there is some actual checking done.

Regardless of the mechanics of the process I'm sure a lot of people have concerns over the above ^^ and just thought 'ah well, fuck this for a carry on'.

/Don't really care: my stuffs all gone anyways.

Yes, there is a queue, and if 7000 people had clicked all at once it would have swamped us. Thankfully, they didn't. The highest point that it reached was something like 90 people waiting in the queue.

We try our best. Remember that all of the staff here are volunteers.

I think that Mr. Yuk made a major point earlier that noone has jumped upon... and I also think that it would fix alot of the issues with older members who had contributed content to the DB, who may or may not be very active on here, and who happen to be stuck at level2 or basic member or whatever, with no access or control over their content.

It shouldn't be that hard to whip up a database query to check which members posted images/stories/locations/etc to the DB before the trust system went live, then sort out which ones haven't gotten full access yet. then, send a mass-email/ private message to all those members (email due to the fact that some of them might not be active here any more!) giving them options: request level3 based on the content that they provided 5+ months ago, have their content removed, leave the whole mess as-is, etc... that way, you don't have people coming back to find the trust system blocking access to their content.

it's no big deal to me; i only had 5 images and zero text in the DB when i was denied level 3. i'd already asked you to delete all my content well before the whole trust system fiasco began... but if i'd still had my dozen plus well-rated locations and hundreds of images and TONS of detailed info in the database and was still denied the level 3 and was then unable to even access that content...

___I would NOT have been thinking "i should go look up who the DB moderator is and send him a nice PM asking to delete my shit". i would have been fucking LIVID. aka PISSED OFF.___

so there. some ideas that might make y'all's lives easier... i think it would really reduce the number of long-time members (many of them a year or more!) who find themselves getting the shaft from a trust system that has left them in the dust.

Well, like I already said, this isn't a library. I don't guarantee that all content will be available all the time. It's not my responsibility to keep someone who doesn't check the site up to date on developments.

the point that i was trying to make was that the trust system was a MAJOR development, and it made the situation such that someone who had submitted content previously would no longer be able to access or modify their own content, while other people would still be able to access it.

i think with the track record of people getting pissed about no longer being able to get at their own content while other, 'trusted' members could continue to access said content would have really hammered my point home, but whatever...

here's a parallel situation, to put it in context:

1: there's an open art gallery where you can put your artwork for all others to see.
2: at a later point, this gallery decides to go private, where only select members can submit or view said artwork.
3: your artwork is still hanging on the walls, but for whatever reason, you haven't been able to drop by that gallery for awhile... then you come back, and are refused at the door, because you aren't one of those private members.
4: anger ensues.

solution: tell all those that have submitted artwork but are not in that select private membership about the changes, and make it easier for them to either remove their artwork or put them on the 'fast-track' to becoming private members of the gallery.

make sense? thought so.

[edit is underlined, now it's a run-on paragraph that makes a bit more sense.]

To continue your analogy:

So you show up at the door and they don't let you in because it's a private membership. But three feet to the left is a sign-up desk, where membership is free. Wouldn't you do that?

But if these people have been registered for a long time before this leveling system was implemented, and were denied access or not given access to their own works in the LDB, then it is understandable that the original poster would be quite pissed. IMO, every user who submitted content to the LDB should have been given L3 access but that was not the case...

Third paragraph.

thank you, please come again!

-dev.

ps: av, i think you could still just whip up that database query to see who has content in the DB, but is still stuck at basic membership. Send a PM to them with a link to http://www.uer.ca/forum_trust.asp?action=request ... Given that basic members can't submit to the DB (yet?)... should be pretty simple!

I know several people who wanted their Illinois/Indiana locations removed but were denied because someone else had come along and added some pictures.

So because someone else besides the original creator of the entry added some useless exterior shots the location was not removed.

The question is, who has control over an entry?

Should it not be the original creator?

I'm sure Av will classify this post as, how did he put it,

"Your useless and inflamatory comments were not necessary. Please don't do it again."

But, oh well.....
