| | | These are my pictures of Padova City. It is 15 minutes past the airport in Kamloops, at the end of Tranquille road. There is a live in Caretaker, and the farms are still being ran.

| | | oh man! those are great shots! How much time did you get before the guy came out? I went there in the night one time and he came around the corner and chased us out. we went into the big ol' hospital part. It's sad to see all the beer cans and results of vandalism in that building. Those morons are the ones that wreck it for those who are just curious (or facinated!) w/ UE...

| | | for melissah question: I had permission from the caretaker of the propopery to take the photo's over three days. I will not give his name, or number, because he is a very private person, and doesn't want anybody he doesn't know or trust on the property for safety reasons, because a lot of the buildings are heavily water damaged, with weak floors. Plus his wife and daughter both live with them out on the property. One night the top of one of the grain silo's almost blew off in a wind storm. Kamloops gets really wicked wind in the spring and fall. Plus I don't want to break his trust, because I want to go back out there when I have some more time to take more photo's before all is lost. But if you can get the caretaker to trust you, he will make you sign a waver saying you will not sue if you get hurt, and nobody will sue on your behave if you die on the property. And be aware, he will take your licence plate number, and call it into the police if you are on the property illegally, and there are silent alarms all over the place. He always needs to turn them off, before I go onto the property. I also had pictures taken with my high-end cannon film camera, but that camera was stolen a week later at a festival here in town, and the pictures where lost when I moved. But all of these pictures are from a Fuji Camera. I have 312 digital photo's that I took on my PC, and laptop, so if any of you want all of the pictures, email me at [email protected], and I shall send you all of them, in full size if you wish if you want to develop any of them, but just make sure you give me credit for them For catnip's Question; Jester's link pretty much sums it all up. It started as a TB hospital in about 1880. I seen some newspapers there dating back to 1860's. Then in about the 50's I think, after WW2, and TB was no longer a major issue in Canada, it was turned into a Mental Hospital, in which a friend of my mom's was a nurse there. And apparently they did really sick experiments there, and apparently, they all had to sign waver's to not talk about what happened out there, to anybody. Then in the late 1980's they sent all the mentaly ill and handcaped people into kamloops to live in either group homes, and some just ended up on the streets here in Kamloops, which some still are, and then a few years later it fully shut down, and then for the longest time a local security company name Ronick, looked after the site for the longest time, but they really weren't really good. I spent full nights in there without being caught taking pictures, and looking around. Then a few years ago, they left, and its now the caretaker living there with his wife and kids. I can still remember when the place was fully running, and the sewer system ran and everything. What really spokes me out about the place, even more so in high school, was that everything still worked perfectly, and it looked like everybody just got up and left one day. All the supplies, equipment medication, paperwork, everything was still there. I seen car's still in the garage bay waiting to be fixed. The boiler room was on stand-by, and u just had to flick a switch apparently, but i never touched it, cause I never wanted to wreak any of it. And even today, I find the hospital still smells like a hospital. As you can see in some of the pics, after it was left, they started to rebuild, but then ran out of money, and left it. Some of the original lights still work, which is odd. And the water system is still running, to water the farms and such. If any of you want any more details or the rest of my pictures, email me at [email protected] and there is Jester's website too! Greg

| | | Regarding phone numbers and names: Totally understandable. I wouldn't ask for any info like that. After we were scared shitless, we had a talk with him in the drive way. I understand what the caretaker was talking about with being liable and such. I couldn't imagin the amoung of reckless teenagers that go there mid-drunk to gawk... I was totally fascinated by that place. The people who I went with were a bunch of totally immature morons looking for a cheap "trip". I was totally in awe of the place; but, I wish that someday I would be able to get the privlage to explore it (with permission)...hey! It's a dream! I used to live in Kamloops (obviously...judging that me and my moronic crew explored the premis) and I would often hear about my class mates trips to Padova. They would often comment on how drunk they are and all that...aah well. Thanks again for you photos! There amazing! The place totally creeps me out, but I find it amazingly fascinating. -Melissa

| | | Ya, the stupid kids have done a load of damage to the place. It always makes me sad to see all the damage they did to the place. But an upside to it, well for me anyways, is that i went threw the buildings, and I got about $80 worth of empties those punks left. If I had the money, I would restore the whole place to its original state and open it as a tourist site to tell people what happened at this place. But there is not enough time to get the funds There has been a few people saying that developers are wanting to turn the property into a golf resort. Which is crappy, we would loose the farms which are still perfectly fine. Plus where the water supply is, thats a provincial park now so, i say just leave the farms as it, clean the rest of the property up, and modernize the farms. Its just sad to think that urban spraw, and stupid punks and vandals are destroying a peace of history. But what can any of us do? One idea i even had, if i had the funds, was to fix all the buildings, and house all the homeless people, and the poor, because that would be a great place for something like that. All I can say is that I really love the place...

| | | the place is easy to fall in love with! I remember that the guy was saying that he was possibly going to put it on the market. But I guess it would be insane to try and take the places down b/c of all the dence/heavy materials. He was also talking about the mould and harmfull spores in the air. I would love to see them fix up the place though! That would be great! It is such a beautiful property. Right on the lake; Geeze! I would also love to see some guided tours through there or something; but this wouldn't happen b/c if any of those snot nosed kids got hurt then the owner would be liable. -Melissa

| | | this past sunday the 21st of august, me and 4 friends headed out to padova cause we were bored. we took the back road as to not go the front entrance way there, and went just past the single lane bridge, and back tracked across the fields into padova and went into some building through a tiny window lol, and ended up wandering around the tunnels a bit till the girls with us saw a foot long rat and freaked out so then we left, but oddly enough there were no security guards out there, cause they filmed a harrison ford movie out there not too long ago and i heard there was ronick security on site but nothing this time, just seemed a little too dead...but who knows

| | | There are motion sensors everywhere, and the caretaker will call police if you do not have permission to be there, although he is a really nice guy [when you have his permission to be there].

| | | When I was out there last [with permission] the caretaker had 500+ silent sensors of various type's. I know the specifics [names, locations, numbers], but thats a closely guarded secret that people will need to talk to me privately for.

| | | Before I got to become friends with the caretaker, the exact same thing happened to me. I got the whole the police were called sound off, and they can be out there in 5mins, but I got all the way up to Aberdeen to drop off friends, and then back to the end of Westsyde without seeing any police cars. Not even any ghost cars or anything. So I am guessing that the police get so many calls about things like that, I think they don't respond unless there is some sort of real threat besides a trespass offence. But it all depends on luck I think [last edit 8/24/2005 8:59 AM by Greg - edited 1 times]
