If you are into abandoned houses, hell, abandonded PERIOD, check out the entire Northern Neck area. 95 South to Route 3 south and GO. I hit paydirt.

For even more, continue on Rt. 3 to Warsaw, make the right (only so many, it's marked) and continue on to Tappahannock. Then go Rt 17 south. Worth the drive if the stuff is still there (most likely). Rt 17 will continue on to the bay, and a bridge that will take you BACK over and up to Rt 3, back to Fredericksburg, basically a big loop.

Only ONE slight problem, be CAREFUL, the houses are in horrendous shape (see the Northern Neck and Colonial Beach galleries on my site), so tread carefully. Also NO CELL coverage. So if you fall thru the floor, break some body part, attempt to call 911, and even if you DO get a signal, I could just hear myself saying, "Uh, yeah, I'm in the basement of some rotting hulk of an old farmhouse somewhere off Rt. 17." Not pretty.

Also, there is an abandoned school with houses right near it off Rt. 17 that seems to have been or IS a rural "shooting gallery" if ya get my drift, and I ain't talkin' guns either. Some crackhead almost burnt one room of the school up when he dropped the pipe.
