if you build it (out of aluminum)
they will come (and steal it)

truer words have not been spoken.

i can narrow it down to about 6 scrapyard within shopping cart distance of downtown that those rings would be in. if the cops really wanted to stop the looting, they would crack down on the scrapyards. you know when some crackhead shows up with an assload of copper/aluminum coils and building wiring that he looted the shit. i swear the next time i catch a looter (and it wouldn't be my first) i won't burden the overloaded court system with him.....

noticed the absence of rings on the DGPG the other day as well. had to consult my pics to make sure they weren't already gone. fuckers.

reality is the fine line between paranoia and denial

I was at Bar Of Soap when I lived down near there and we saw a guy tear down one of the Deco aluminum wall lights. We called the cops and chased the guy, who was surprisingly fast pushing a shopping cart and by the time we could cross Parry traffic, he was gone. The next day, I talked to some guys at Fair Park and someone had made off with 14 rows of aluminum seating from the Cotton Bowl. The Fair Park guys went to the metal yard nearest them and, lo and behold...
They shelled out $280 and bought them back to save on the legal hassles. No better way to show people that crime DOES pay. Idiots. They shoulda nailed the scrap yard for receiving stolen merchandise.

I'm a blatant waste of time and resources.

Wow! Where to start ...

Bean, I'll let ya know what happens. I was slammed with work the last two weeks, a good thing for paying bills, sucks for having fun! I'm off for at least a week starting tuesday so hoping to try and make contact with them next week.

Coffinail, you hit the nail on the head, no pun intended. There looking at "affordable", not low income. No section 8 money involved, just big quantities of tax incentives <grin>. And your right the 8' cielings make it unattractive for the uppity ups wanting high end stuff but as far as the difficulty of doing it, actually it's easier than a warehouse conversion because there so many plumbing stacks running everywhere, just rip out some walls combine a few rooms and ya have an apartment. Only thing easier would be to make a jail like when we did bill decker on industrial, cool project but killed me as I watched the grand staircase and other things ripped out.

As far as the merc goes 2x I think it did all get passed is what I heard a couple weeks ago... I guess all the money got to those it needed to before the feds moved in and cracked down on everyone!

On the stealing, yea its awful right now but whats wierd is the scrap yards have to keep records of who brings stuff in just like a pawn shop supposedly so you'd think they could do a better job busting people but then it dont stop people from pawning shit either I guess now I think about it!
