How about an armchair icon to go along with those?

I like that idea.

While more various little icons do seem a bit silly, I think it's a good idea in the sense that it builds community within the site, and you get to learn more about your fellow explorers.

WTF indeed.

Sounds all fine and dandy to me.

Now, will there be an icon for driving to Toronto then driving with Av in the passenger seat to the middle of Southern Ontario?

I just don't see more icons being that useful, but I'm a stick-in-the-mud like that. I like to explore a lot of different places, so I wouldn't want people to think I am into only abandonments because I have an abandonment icon.

If this goes through, is there some way to have these icons appear only in someone's profile, so they don't clutter up the main screen?

Actually, I'd go even farther and say maybe most or all of the icons only show up on profile pages. The interface is suffering from a bit of creeping featuritis. I know, I know, I can use the Infiltration interface...

I agree. I don't mind the idea, but I don't think there's any point in having them on every post.

I tend to agree on that. Reduces visual clutter and keeps the forums fast loading. Plus if some people are interested in more than one subject (e.g. draining, UEing, etc.) that's going to be a slew of icons besides their name.

Instead of having it as separate icons how about an overlay on the bottom of your avatar, such as the copyright info for your images are done?

Option when you upload your avatar to choose one, two, or three icons.

Such as:

Not bad idea. At least that can be done if we never get explorer icons. I'd still like explorer icons.. I can see no problem with them. Especially if they would be only seen when checking someone's profile or something..

I concur, I like the UER interface, but with more and more images on the thread pages it's going to cause slower loading. Even though they are mere kilobytes, they will kill those with dialup connections.

It would just be another way to keep more people away from UER if we put them on every post.

What do icons have to do with exploring? Rather than creating new icons and such, why don't people get out and explore something? You got something to share? Share it. This site is becoming less and less focused on what it is intended for.

I like 'em. Sounds like a fun way to give people credit for contributions. Maybe make it so when you mouseover a given persons icon it tells you which locations of that type they've contributed.
