Has anyone been to that unfinished resort on the cliff outside Victoria? Been a good 12 years since I was there and I just don't remember the name. I will have to pull some prints out of storage and scan them for posting here, just a wild place.

Basically a frame made of huge logs (not wrapping your arms around type of huge) on a cliff overlooking some white water. Taken over by hippies and squatters last I was there, but still amazing to see.

Would love to hear of anyone else being there...

Yeah...herd of it but never been. Near Sooke Potholes, right? I've seen pictures of it, an old rotting lodge-type thing sitting on the edge of a cliff. Wouldn't mind checking it out sometime.

just this past weekend, i walked up there, only to find the place torn down. i was pissed off, very pissed off. the whole are is being developed as a park, the bad kind, where everything is paved and there are signs everywhere, and fences. back when i was a little kid, we'd hike way up the river to the resort, hang out there for a bit (playing tag in the basement, which totally seemed like a dungeon) and then climb down to the river and swim. now its all yuppy-ated. i was very sad.

WHAT? Not sure what sort of language is appropriate here, but I am sure you can all come up with your own stream of curses...

I think you could probably fill an entire page with expletives and I wouldn't be offended. As for what is or what isn't appropriate, simply remove every other vowel and hard consonant and leave the rest of the letters.

OR...given that this 'park' thing is really about money, take the common terms from an accounting agency (bottom line, spread sheet, annual returns...I'm not an accountant, so I'm only guessing here) and substitute those terms for the more colourful kind we all know and love.

That's sad news. Inevitable, though, doncha think? I mean...really. There's a nice chunk of under developed land and some fat guy in a suit ('fat guy' in this context means BANKER...so no disrespect intended to Plus Size people...except maybe those who work for banks...KIDDING) wants to tear everything down and rebuild what was never there and put a dot on a map and then charge like hell for the 'privilege' of enjoying what was previously free.

All those new signs are to remind you that massive amounts of money has been spent to ensure your total boredom. Buy the postcard, write something ill-tempered on it, then address it to the godamned idiots who run this province and remind them that they suck ass...and NOT in a good way.

No kidding... I mean, didn't we all use it as a park to begin with? But a park with a very cool jungle gym of sorts. Why tear down something so cool just so people can enjoy the area. The framework was part of the reason people enjoyed the area to begin with. Bunch of short-sighte dummies... I tell you. Since Campbell got in everything seems like it has gone south. Hard to tell from Toronto, but that is how it seems to me. When I lived there, I was a political reporter and actually got to know guys like Glen Clark and Gordon Wilson on a first name basis. Be nice to still be there and still have those relationships and see if they couldn't have been used to save something like Deer Trails...

Well...then there's the issue of 'liability.' If some drunk teenager takes a dive off the balcony of that old place, someone somewhere is going to catch shit.

So instead of letting the gene pool take care of itself, someone comes along and tears down the place, erects signs warning people not to be stupid around high cliffs, and then the liability issue is resolved.

"HEY...we warned you. It's not our fault you were born stupid and reckless."

And then they charge an access fee so as to assure themselves that people paid for the choice and that's that.

saw it in operation

there is probably lots of cool cabins to go check out there now as the Band as decided to not renew anynone's leases as of 2003 or 04 I think everyone
should be out and in fact some people I know may have taken thier cabin with them we sold our place thier in 2000 and it was abadoned some time after that
hmm sounds like a good way to spend a weekend

may just have to go camping this weekend
