Is there an easy way to get an offline version of the LDB with only informations and the main picture (without the galleries) ?

I don't want to copy&paste the informations or select File > Save in my browser for each 100+ locations that I would like to have an offline version.

wget -r http://uer.ca/

What you might try though, if it's all your locations, is
wget -r -l1 http://www.uer.ca/....asp?posterid=1324

IIRC this will save all pages one link away from "show all my locations".

Or just make a text file of all the links you want to download
(like http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=20698 for different locid's, each entry on a new line) and then do a wget --use-list locationlist (I don't know the command, was it --use-list?). This will get you all the location's main pages.

Simple as that; I keep local copies of several archive sites with thousands of files, gigs of video, etc.

Please don't use tools like this to download this website. It uses up a lot of server power and bandwidth. If I see someone doing it I will be forced to block their account.

Give Av a cute present along with some money and beg for him to send you a compressed archive file (zip/tar/rar/7zip) of everything

As Beryl suggested, Av, is there any way we can get you to zip it all up and put it on a DVD or something? I'd be more than happy to donate more to the site if I can get a local version to browse on my laptop when I'm bored.

I would strongly advise against that.

Usually when people are talking about terrorism I think "bullshit", but in this case I know otherwise.

In the Netherlands, there's a set of CD'S with topographical maps of the entire Netherlands, 1:25.000 going around, called the "Kabouterkaarten". There was a huge fuss about this a few years back in the Netherlands, that it would be horrible would these fall in the hands of terrorists.

(Everyone neglected that all military objects are on public 1:25.000 maps as well, and that all these maps were available online - Hell, I spent a month ripping them and they cover 99% of the Netherlands, only some border area's missing. But once you start a fuss about such things in the Netherlands, people tend to neglect the facts.)

For the same reason I would advise against distributing such CD's, because other than with this site's password, when anyone has such a CD people will start giving copies to friends who think "this is cool" and they start giving it to their friends who might be vandals, taggers or paranoid government people. You just can't prevent that and the Cool people:Trash rating will be far worse than this site's actual population.

For taggers and Vandals such a DVD will be like a tourist guide (even more than this website might have been before L3), and to government people we might be a bunch of people who collect as much data as possible on terrorist targets. I knew what a craze maps you could just buy in any outdoor store brought in the sober Netherlands, imagine what a clusterfuck DVD with 100's of "Terrorist targets" would bring in the Paranoid USA. I could seriously see it leading to the shutdown of UER.ca.

I would really like to have one of those DVD's myself, but when you start selling them people will make copies of them. You just can't prevent that.

That's just my view though.

Also, accepting money for an offline CD of the site would be selling other's work for a fee. You would need everyone's permission to sell their photographs or host them outwith UER (As defined by the new user agreement).

This in my opinion, terrorism concerns aside, should be the primary reason that selling 'UER. DVD Edition' is fuck-ass stupid.

If you really need to browse UER offline, why not try some of the following instead: Get a girl/boyfriend, watch a movie, wash your car, spend time with a loved one, polish your flashlight (Or any double meaning thereof)... etc...etc...

I could just do File > Save AS in IE/Firefox to get an online version but it will take a while to save all the locations.

If I just zipped up the directory, it would be useless to you -- one directory has 80,000 JPG files in it with no information except that each file is numbered sequentially starting at 1.

The information you want is in the database, and even that is disjointed and disconnected until the site takes it and puts it all together.

I've never needed access to the entire LDB while away from my computer. I suggest you make a few notes on the places you're interested in and then use that.

Then you will be unhappy to discover that the compiled information of others has the same copyright status as pictures.

Hey, if Av/X can live without a complete offline copy of UER... Then I'm sure everyone else can learn to just get by too!
