I don't know about you but i've been bored as fuck with the online UE community as of late. I'm not sure if its the level 3 system which divided the community, for better or for worse or if its just people feeling like the same old topics keep getting rehashed.

I don't claim to know the answer, but I think its one we as a community need to discuss. I know its not just me, several members including mods have claimed that uer seems to be less than a fun place recently. Discuss!

Ive been ubexing nearly all my life I just didnt know there was a place like this to share stories pics and compare notes til a couple months ago.

Im having fun for now. I'll try not to post threads that have already been covered if thats the rub, just going over the last month now so Im going to start working my way backwards. Maybe I should start in ascending order.

What is this "UE community" of which you speak?

Chris...

This is generally how things go... in summer things quiet down as people spend more time actually exploring and less time on here.

Well, Turbozutek and I risked frostbite and near death to coninue our explorations throughout the winter, but it's a much more delightful prospect in the summer. We've all moved our galleries elswhere though. Personally it was the level status that pissed me off. I don't appreciate having galleries on a website that i can't access. Ok, call me impatient, but f**k it.

The level 3 status turned this site into something resembling an experiment in oligarchical collectivism (i.e 'inner' and 'outer' party members etc). Unsurprisingly many people have found this site somewhat flavourless as a result.

As posted in an earlier post, I think the reason the site has been somewhat "quiet" lately has been because it is summertime. I know personally I am not on here that much in the summer, because I am out exploring, enjoying the heat. Once winter rolls around, that is when I will be posting alot more, and uploading locations to the DB.

I don't think this has anything to do with Level II/Level III system that has been put into place. I think the system is working well, with a few hiccups, but for the short and long term will make the community a better place for all explorers.

Summer is here, the weather is good and people are going out to explore more, like me. Ive gone out every night for the past 2 weeks looking around places I know of or looking for new locations to explore. Summer is usually slow for UER, Winter is hell.

ditto. most of the people i know didn't take off, and neither did i - during the summer, however, i have a lot less time for UER. also, when i am not stuck inside, my interest in the constant arguments in the forums drops considerably.

honestly, alot of the new members that have shown up since the level system was instituted have been quite cool, and not seemed discouraged by the time lag too much - so my fears there have been somewhat allayed.

If you are that bored, then go out and explore. Contribute. Discuss. I just have less respect to those people who like to beat the same threads over and over again when it has been clearly discussed elsewhere.

As for the poll, I agree with AV's decision for the Level 3 system. Adds another level of security which was needed for some LDB entries and some forum posts. Now, if I feel that a site may be threatened by some hoodlum who doesn't give a rat's ass about a location, I can mark it "level 3" only.

I explore all the time. I have a life outside uer. I've contributed plenty to the ldb and have attempted to start many a discussion. That's not the point of the thread. The point was that many including myself have felt this community going downhill. Its not pointing fingers at anyone, rather, it explores the problem in an attempt to fix it.

Personally, I think the level 3 system hasn't really done more good than bad. There are good things about it, like getting street addresses and real names back in the DB and the titch of added "security" but then theres the elitism and the problems new explorers face if they want to see some locations online before heading out. In fact, some elitist user will probably quote this and pick it to pieces with "corrections" and digging up of my personal history on here. Thanks to that latter fact, I pretty much don't have an opinion on here anymore.

EDIT: Got rid of the personal stuff in an attempt not to de-rail the thread...

I personally was a bit sick of UER for a few months with all the "why l3 mofo taky my pics d0wn lol omg wtf l0x0r", but I'm liking it more now.

Actually, I've seen a lot more people and I doubt there's a lot of active members before L3 who ar no more active now.

I think the L3 system creates a distinction between active and nonactive members, as basically anyone being active enough and hasn't showed to be bad, gets L3 in a while.

Yes I agree, the banter on the Scottish locations (for instance) is just as good as ever!

This poll is rather difficult to use as any kind of relevant data, because some of the answers conflict.

However, I thought it might be interesting to compare the results based on whether the voter was a Level-3 member or not.

POLL OPTION VOTES PERCENTAGE # Level-3 PERC
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. ...segregated the community for worse 13 23.64 % 9 69 %
2. ...made it better and I like it this way 11 20 % 11 100 %
3. ...too many flamewars 4 7.27 % 3 75 %
4. ...too fuzzy 3 5.45 % 3 100 %
5. ...ldb makes people armchair explorers 1 1.82 % 1 100 %
6. ...Sick of BEST OF 2 3.64 % 2 100 %
7. ...Nothing's wrong, i love it here! 10 18.18 % 8 80 %
8. ...Other 4 7.27 % 4 100 %
9. ...online UE sucks! 7 12.73 % 6 86 %

I suppose that my point with this data is that the "segregated the community for worse" option has a lot of people voting for it who aren't Level 3, and therefore couldn't possibly know how good the Level 3 system is. Not that this invalidates their opinions...

Interesting that the vast majority of all voters are level 3 - wonder what that says... Out of 55 votes in your chart, fully 47 or 85% are level 3 members. Does that mean that only 15% of content here is non level 3? Or that those without level 3 are not as willing to contribute. But the level split in the vote tallies are very interesting...

Also interesting that people would take the time to get online, surf UER, find the poll, decide to participate only to choose "online UE sucks". seems like just not bothering with the forums, or the poll, or the site would accomplish that with a whole lot less effort.
