| | Who here carries their gear on a regular basis? < on 5/21/2005 6:51 AM >
| | | I'm not sure if I'm alone on this one, or if anyone else does this as well... but who here carries almost all, if not all, of their UEing gear with them on a regular basis? You'll never find me anywhere (with a few exceptions, such as formal gatherings) without my basic exploration equipment. This includes my Leatherman Charge multitool, Inova T2 flashlight, Byrd Cara Cara folding knife, lockpicks, and of course my cellphone and wallet. On regular exploration trips, the only additional things I bring are a camera and depending on the location, a P100 filter half-face respirator. Not only does this allow me to take advantage of any "now or never" exploration opportunities that may come my way, but the equipment I carry comes in handy very much for regular day to day tasks. Does anyone else carry around this much stuff with them on a daily basis?

| | | I don't usually carry stuff unless I have especially planned going to urban explore. Couple of times it has been annoying that I haven't had the camera with me or stuff like that, when I have found some interesting while not especially planned UEing. Therefore it would be useful to have the stuff always with me, but I'm too lazy. I usually carry my stuff in backpack. I don't have much; flash light, rubber boots (if going to some watery place), orange draining gloves (that actually aren't meant for that, but they look cool) and camera. As well, sometimes it can be that I have just the flash light. Or nothing.

| | | These items are always carried in my vehicle at all times. I am not too worried about some stealing most of these, except for the Hydration Pack, but it is a pain to bring stuff back and forth from the vehicle to the house every night. -Hydration Pack -Tripod -Change of Clothing -Change of Footwear -Maps -First Aid Kit The items I store inside are usually my more valuable items, and items that have to recharge. -Flashlights -Canon Powershot A95 Camera with 512 card, and 32 card for backup. -FRS -Cell Phone -Wallet My Basic Exploring Kit would be -Flashlight -Canon Powershot A95 with both memory cards -Cell Phone -Hydration Pack -Wallet -First Aid Kit Anything else not on the list I do carry from time to time, but it all depends on the location, and how lazy I am that day.

| | | I carry alot of different gear in my trunk. In fact I have so much stuff I had to make a custom gear rack and storage. It isn't all UE stuff though, I'm Military Police in the National Guard so I keep alot of military equipment in there too. For UE Equipment, I carry in my vehicle. . . Bottled Water (Very important) Gear Vest (To carry all my stuff) MRE's (Meals Ready to Eat) Flashlights (2 White LED, Blue LED, Green LED, Red Headlamp) Waterproof Hiking Boots (Wet feet suck) Change of Clothes (Wet clothes suck) Waterproof Puncture Resistant Gloves (Nails + Hand = Bad) Lighter (Backup light, warmth if lost in woods) Cellphone (Gateway to the real world) Sony Cybershot P93 (Pictures tell stories that words cannot) Tripod (If I can be casual about picture taking) Region Maps (Getting lost is no fun!) Compass (See above) Light Sticks (Extra lightsource) Flare Gun (Don't usually carry it, unless dangerous location) Utility Knife (Comes in handy) Lockpicks (Very rarely carry them with me, legal reasons) Combat Knife (Again, rarely carry with me, unless area is bad, Self Defense) Tazer (Same as above, self defense, rarely carry it) Binoculars (I see you) There are a few other trinkets I sometimes carry along. I usually pack pretty light, but like I said all this is just stuff I keep in my vehicle, I pick and choose based on where I'm going. Some people might think alot of this stuff is just useless gear that would slow one down, or they never really need. Believe me, there is a situation where alot of this stuff could come in handy, I've been in situations where I could have almost needed multiple of these items. As for the tactical vest, alot of people find that not needed, or that it is something that will draw attention. True, it could. It is the type of vest that covers everything completely, so in terms of getting caught on something, or getting snagged up because of my "bulky gear" it won't happen, it's not bulky at all. I'm just one of those people that want to be 100% prepared for any situation. It's just something I learned in the military I guess, so I carry it over. I've run into a few people while carrying alot of gear, they all figured I was a photographer carrying alot of gear, which is partially true, 60% of what I carry is film equipment alot of the times!

| | | i carry my camera and maglight in my truck, never know when you find an inviting mine or such. my camera bag is my gear, extra batterys, plenty of film, and usually gloves. I also have my leatherman just about everywhere i go, except i always end up loosing it in my garage working on the car. having the gear in the truck is really nice, i can go into anything i might find wheeling or just driving around.

| | | I used to carry a leatherman, untill I got all the tools on one half of it extended, and I can't close them again. I can't figure those things out lol. Leathermans are great tools to carry though, I recommend it to anyone. Just don't get all the tools extended like I did.

| | | Yeah, I take my camera bag everywhere I go and the contents of that bag include nearly all of my UE gear. Whatever is not in there is usually in the trunk of my car.

| | | Just a word of advice... having bolt cutters in your car with you at all times might not be the best idea. I don't know if you are aware of this, but if you are pulled over with them and the cops find them, they are a burglary tool. Even if you have no intent to use them as a burglary tool, they are considered a burglary tool. You are better off being arrested and having lockpicks found on your person than you are having bolt cutters in your car, because at least then they have to prove that you had intent to use them in a malicious manner. Perhaps things are treated a bit differently where you live, but I know that where I am from in Massachusetts this is the way things are handled.
