Underground Ozarks does a little underground boating

Just put an abandoned underground quarry on the site called the Carthage Underground. It's a two story mine, big enough to drive dump trucks through. The lower level is flooded, and we brought in an inflatable boat to explore it.

That's a pretty interesting looking place! Mines and quarries aren't really my thing, but boating on that Green, Green water looks like a hella lot of fun! Good stuff!

Cheers,

Thanks for posting those pix. Would there be any chance of a third lower level that's completely flooded? Didn't look like it was a well known place, due to the absence of tagging. You guys may have been the first people in there in many years.

Oh, we were totally looking for a submerged third level, but we didn't see any. There totally could be one, though, because there were places where it was too shallow for the boat to go so we didn't see every part of the level. And the place actually is pretty well known in the area, so who knows why there's so little graffiti.

Mines are always fun! Although this looks like a fairly standard underground limestone quarry, it would be all that much more interesting because of the second level. How extensive is it - roughly how far in diameter would this mine be?

Do you think this would be accessible during the daytime? I might be interested in coming down and exploring it, combined with a powered paragliding trip to the Ozarks. It would be fun to fly around those hills, but PPG is usually something that's restricted to early morning/late evening due to thermals so I'd still be looking for stuff to do during midday/early afternoon.

I want to be different. But I want to be different just like everybody else, because if I really were different, everybody would think I was crazy and weird.

It's not super-huge in diameter. Maybe 200 yards? And there's a pretty active business right next to it, but you might be able able to do it if you were extremely careful. Honestly, it'd be pretty risky in the daylight, though.

Nope, plain ol' fresh water. I'm not really sure what's up with the color of the water. It was just a marble and limestone quarry, so I'm not really sure why that would make the water green.

At least 10 or 12 feet in places. There were a lot of places where it was spookily deep.

Nice shots; made possible by the UECAT (Urban exploration collapsible amphibious transport). Will be using one this summer on the Hudson river and elsewhere.

I got your tour winner right here pussies, at least he'd crash out trying.
